Kanye West’s ‘Jesus Is King’ Debuts At Number 1

Despite the numerous delays surrounding its release, Kanye West’s latest album “Jesus Is King” debuted at number one on the “Billboard 200” chart. This is his ninth album in a row to debut at the top of the chart.

With this chart-topping album, West has now tied with Eminem for the most consecutive number 1 albums for a rap or hip hop artist. His only album to miss number one was his debut record, 2004’s “The College Dropout”, which debuted and peaked at number two on the chart. Among all hip hop acts, Jay-Z has the most debuts at number one on the Billboard 200, with 14, but they were not consecutive.

“Jesus Is King” launched with 196.9 million on-demand audio streams for its tracks, it surpasses West’s previous biggest streaming week, “Ye” with 180.1 million in 2018.

Fans can also watch the IMAX film of the same name which accompanies the album in select theaters. Even with the delays, Kanye West remains top of the hip hop world.
