Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary and his wife, Sophie, who was the duchess of Hohenberg are pictured above just moments before they were both assassinated. Here, they’re shown in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914. Their murder led Serbia’s allies to declare war on each other, precipitating the beginning of World War I.
