Than Shwe of Myanmar Has Eight Children

Than Shwe became the leader of Myanmar in 1992. He originally started out as a postman before joining the military and working his way up. The regime is known for multiple atrocities which include human trafficking, abuse of children, lack of freedom of the press, and rapes committed by the military. Children are also often forced into military service at a young age.

Than Shwe has eight children, five daughters, and three sons. In 2006, footage from one of his daughter’s weddings found its way on the Internet which was met with much controversy especially because of the lavishness of the celebrations.
