In 1985, a TV movie called Mussolini and I was created, which characterized the relationship between Mussolini, his son in law and foreign minister, and his daughter Edda. Bob Hoskins as Benito Mussolini, Anthony Hopkins as Count Galeazzo Ciano, and Susan Sarandon and Edda Mussolini star in the film.

Of course, in real life, the relationship was famously strained especially as Count Ciano began voicing opposition to Mussolini. Ultimately, Mussolini had Count Ciano killed and he and his daughter’s relationship would never recover. Edda even went on to have an affair with a Communist in an effort to spite her fascist father.
