Debra Winger chose to take a break from Hollywood when she turned 40. Known for films including An Officer and a Gentleman, Terms of Endearment, and Urban Cowboy, she still had a lot of work ahead of her. Instead, she decided to focus on her marriage to actor Arliss Howard and her second son, Babe, who was born when she was 42.

“She’s a very good, very thoughtful mother, and I think it was hard for her to bring the commitment to her work that it requires when we were young,” her oldest son Noah told The New York Times in 2010.
