Nicole Richie’s Biological Father Asked Lionel Richie To Adopt Her

When Nicole Richie was just three years old, her father, musician Peter Escovedo, and mother realized they could no longer support her financially. That’s when Lionel Richie stepped and decided to take care of the toddler. Lionel and his wife at the time officially adopted Nicole when she was nine years old.

Nicole’s biological parents realized they could not provide Nicole with as much care as she needed. They made the ultimate sacrifice by giving her up. Nicole later told People magazine, “My parents were friends with Lionel. They trusted that they would be better able to provide for me.”
