In 1994, the now-Dr. Oz started the Cardiovascular Institute and Integrative Medicine Program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. He has also been a professor at the Department of Surgery at Columbia University since 2001. In 1998, after co-authoring with his wife Healing From the Heart: A Leading Surgeon Combines Eastern and Western Traditions to Create the Medicine of the Future, Oz began to receive exposure from the media. This led the couple to create the television show Second Opinion With Dr. Oz, which ran for one season in 2003. One of the guests he featured on the show was Oprah Winfrey. Their relationship would then become critical to the growth and development of Oz’s name and reputation.
