In June of 2014, Oz was called to face a Senate subcommittee. Here, members of a Senate panel grilled Oz for using his fame and television personality power too push questionable weight-loss products onto his viewers. Senator Clair McCaskill of Missouri called out Dr. oz on his word usage for describing the products as a “magical weight-loss cure”, and “the number one miracle in a bottle”. She went on to ask why he would say things that simply aren’t true and “So why when you have this amazing megaphone and this amazing ability to communicate, why would you cheapen your show by saying things like that?” Oz continued to backtrack for the rest of the hearing on the various claims he had made over the past five years of the show.
