Amidst the chaos and uncertainty of being exiled, the family found comfort in the routine of making up daily menus as it reminded them of their happy life prior to the Russian revolution. Despite the harsh conditions under which they were living in while exiled, no one in the Romanov family ever complained about the limited food they were allowed in captivity.
