Actress Jane Fonda was unwittingly in an open marriage with her first husband, French film director Roger Vadim. After admitting to having extra-marital affairs, Vadim suggested to Fonda that she “should try having adventures of her own to enjoy ‘sex for its own sake,'” according to Daily Mail.

“Suddenly, her beloved husband – with whom she was trying to conceive a baby – was asking her to be his sexual accomplice. But she felt she had no choice. For all his faults, he gave her much-needed emotional security. So, again, she said nothing… The couple continued having threesomes throughout most of their marriage.”
