When the marriage between basketball legend and athlete Magic Johnson and long-time girlfriend Earthlina Kelly was announced just two weeks after Johnson exposed his ongoing battle with AIDS, the press was shocked. However, after learning that the two had been engaging in open marriage practices for years, the root of Magic’s contraction from a third party made quite a bit of sense.

Even though it originally seemed to be contracted through infidelity, Johnson’s wandering eye that resulted in the disease was allegedly rumored to be less scandalous than we anticipated. Although we’re not sure if they still practice this type of marital system to this day, it is clear that Johnson was on a looser leash than we thought at the time.
