Eva Mendes starred in this James Gray-directed film. In one scene, an excited Mendes performs a rather personal act of self-love when her boyfriend, played by Joaquin Phoenix, walks into the room, sees what she’s doing, and joins in. Mendes later said in an interview that filming the scene was one of the most nerve-wracking moments of her career.

The film also included the star power of Mark Wahlberg, Robert Duvall, and Ed Koch. The film opened to mixed reviews although it was a commercial success in theatres and with DVD sales. Mendes’ racy scene likely didn’t hurt sales.
