No Filter: These Actors Were Really Getting Intimate On Film!

Blue Movie (1969)

Blue Movie

In 1969, the iconic pop artist Andy Warhol directed a film called Blue Movie. It was the first movie with explicit scenes to receive a wide theatrical release. Warhol later explained that the movie was a major influence onLast Tango in Paris, starring Marlon Brando.

The movie also has the dubious honor of ushering in the “Golden Age of Porn” and the “porno chic” trend that arrived afterward. The movie depicts one afternoon in the life of a couple as they carouse in bed, chatting about current events between bouts of intercourse. The entire staff of NYC’s Garrick Theatre was arrested and later fined $250 for showing the film which lawmakers called “obscene.”
