In early 2020, New York-based actress Meg Ryan decided it was time to purchase some real estate on the West Coast. She opted to look at the beach town of Montecito, California, finding a quirky yet beautiful farmhouse for a little over five million dollars.
With a spacious and open layout, fun amenities, and copious amounts of land, it’s not hard to see why Ryan fell in love with the place. Are you interested to see what her house looks like? Well, keep scrolling to get an inside look.
Meg Ryan Bought A Beautiful Montecito Estate
Early in 2020, New York-based actress Meg Ryan surprised fans by putting some major roots down on the West Coast. The actress decided it was time to invest in some real estate, purchasing a magnificent home in Montecito, California, for $5.025 million.
The home is a sprawling 4,268 square feet and consists of three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms. And that’s just the interior. The one and a half acre site that the house sits on is nothing short of a fairy tale.
The Great Room Has A Stone Fireplace
The great room is gorgeous, with a ceiling of dark exposed beams that match the hardwood floor and a stone fireplace. The design choice gives the room more of a rustic feel than what the more modern white couch selection might lead people to expect.
In our opinion, the best part of the room is something very simple — the gigantic French doors that open up to the outdoor patio. It’s the perfect choice to give whoever is sitting in the great room a wonderful California breeze.
Earth-Tones Work Wonders In This Spacious Kitchen
Of course, the exposed beams, matching dark brown floor, and ochre-colored titles make their way into the kitchen, too. With two bars that sit three people each, a 300-bottle walk-in refrigerated pantry, and top-end kitchen appliances, it’s safe to say no expense was too great.
And the decor is spot on. Instead of a modern look, Ryan opted for Earth-tone colored bar stools and a turquoise, Moroccan tile backsplash to give the room a unique color palate that works perfectly for the seaside town of Montecito.
No Expense Was Spared For This Luxurious Laundry Room
To say we’re jealous of this spacious laundry room would be an understatement. Not only does Ryan have a gorgeous stainless steel washer and dryer set, but the room also features a ton of storage for towels, cleaning supplies, linens, and all of the junk drawers you can imagine!
The marble floor and countertops, in contrast with the dark wood cupboards, aren’t too hard on the eyes either. We’re not sure about you, but we’d be dying to wash clothes if this was our laundromat.
An Office With A View
We’d bet that this is the home office of most peoples’ dreams. It has a very calm and mellow feel to it, making it the optimal place to get work done. With the minimalist decorations, exposed beams, glass desk, and leather chair, it looks like Ryan is merging two decoration styles. Ironically, it works!
But the most magnificent part of this home office isn’t the wall art or statues, but (again) the French doors that open up into the back yard. Nothing says tranquility like working with a beautiful view.
One Of The Guestrooms
The high ceilings make this guest room feel extremely open, especially since the bed is placed inside a frame instead of on top of it. And having the frame match the dark wood of the closet, wall-mounted end tables, floor, and accent chairs gives the room a warm feel.
Then, right before she overdoes it with the dark browns, Ryan comes at the room with lovely splashes of color in various locations, such as the lavender duvet and red pillow.
The Other Guest Room
Now, this guest room is decorated in a way that does nothing but makes us smile. It’s almost as if Ryan took a few different objects from various decades and threw them all into one room.
The thing is, the green velvet headboard paired with the blue accent lamps and floral patterned duvet works. This comfortable guest room also has an en suite bathroom and a private entrance that brings in a lovely amount of natural light.
En Suite Guest Bathroom
Off of the guest room is this spacious en suite bathroom. One thing we love about this room is how clean it is. White is always a great choice for a bathroom, but the owner has to be sure to take care of the tile, or else it will stain very quickly.
Ryan obviously knows what she’s doing, because the all-white shower, counter, and floor are gorgeous with the splash of yellow coming from the tulips.
The Master Bedroom
Again, we see the dark wood floor and beautiful exposed beams adorning the vaulted ceilings in the master bedroom. The decor is warm, with a lot of Earth tones to complement the giant French doors that bring you to the very green backyard.
Like all of Ryan’s rooms, it wouldn’t be complete without a bold splash of color. For the master, she chose two royal blue accent chairs at the foot of the otherwise white-and-cream-colored bed.
The Bathroom And Closet
Yes, this is a walk-in closet with an attached bath and not a funky kitchen. Instead of showcasing all of the garments, shoes, and accessories, this closet’s design opts for doors and drawers, giving it a much cleaner look against its white backdrop.
Of course, the countertops are marble, and the hardwood leading into the bathroom of turquoise tile is nothing short of immaculate. Top that off with a huge window to bring in natural light, and you have the closet of our wildest dreams.
The master bathroom in Ryan’s mansion is something else. Instead of a tub-and-shower combination, the actress has a stone tub right underneath a huge window overlooking the mountains and garden. On top of the blue Moroccan tile, it is probably the most serene design the actress could have come up with.
If there were ever a place to sit back and relax with a cup of hot tea and a book, it would be in this bathtub overlooking the Santa Barbara mountains.
The Indoor/Outdoor Shower
One great aspect of the master bathroom is the versatile rain shower. Not only does it work as a regular indoor shower, but there is a door leading outside, making it just as much an outdoor shower as well.
Considering Ryan has a pool and lots of land at her disposal, it’s probably nice to not have to worry about tracking water or dirt throughout the house. The dual shower gives the home a very beachy feel.
Half-Bath With A Green-Tiled Backsplash
This half-bathroom is the definition of quirky, with its circle mirror, green-tiled backsplash, stone countertop, and the retro pool painting. We have to give the designer some major props, though.
Instead of going with dark wood like the majority of the house, the grey stone complements the other colors nicely while opening up the room a bit more. And that’s definitely something you’re looking for in a half-bath since they tend to be on the smaller side.
The Other Bathroom
In contrast with all of the other bathrooms and rooms in the house, this bathroom is all dark, sleek woods and granite counters. It definitely looks like a “his” bathroom with the straight lines and no-nonsense vibe the room evokes.
Even so, we can appreciate the splash of white coming from the flowers and the rug. It makes the otherwise dark room feel more alive, especially when paired with the white speckled granite countertop.
Outdoor Sitting Area
Ryan’s mansion sits on a little over one and a half acres of land, so it only makes sense that she has an immaculate backyard to accompany the beautiful home. This little sitting area is one of a few on her property.
It’s the perfect spot to sit back and relax with a few friends. Either that, or we can imagine Ryan sitting out here in the morning with a cup of coffee and a good book.
The Pool And Swings
Nothing says oasis quite like Ryan’s pool and spa area. Once again, we see the blue Moroccan tiles and beautifully laid stonework for the stairs and perimeter of the spa, giving the entire setup a very Mediterranean feel.
Pair that with the lush vegetation surrounding the pool and the personal wooden swings hanging from the garden structure, and we’re surprised Ryan gets anything done during the day! We mean, you can’t really beat the garden and mountain view!
There is definitely something to be said about a backyard with an open layout. A few feet up the stone stairs of the pool deck is another lounge area. And even though it gives a perfect view of the back of the house, it is still private, in a sense.
We’re chalking it up to the proximity of the various sitting areas as well as the manicured shrubbery surrounding the pool area. We can easily imagine Ryan soaking up some California sunshine out here.
The Perfect Picnic Spot
Now, this sitting area is what romantic fairy tale dates are made of. Nestled between some trees off to the side of the house is this picture-perfect picnic spot. The area is far enough away from the rest of the home to give a semblance of privacy.
The warm lights dangling from the trees above the table and chairs make it feel as though this spot is in its own little world.
A Fire Pit
Just because a person can’t have too many lounge areas in their backyard, we’re going to show one more of Ryan’s. Unlike the other spots, this area features a beautiful fire pit that would be perfect for sitting around on a chilly evening.
Imagine jumping out of the pool only to wrap yourself in a towel and sit down in front of a roaring fire. Oh, and then you can make your way to the indoor/outdoor shower!
It’s easy to see why the New York-based actresses decided to buy the farmhouse. It is quirky, beautiful, and comes with various amenities that are nothing short of lovely. Sitting on one and a half acres of land, Ryan is lucky enough to have a few outdoor sitting areas, a pool, and even orchards that grace her property.
Not only is there a copious amount of vegetation surrounding her house, but there are also various fruit trees and even a few avocado trees!
