Producer Sidney Sheldon loved the movie “The Brass Bottle” and decided to base the TV show off that movie. It features Tony Randall, Barbara Eden, and Burl Ives. He liked the idea of a beautiful female genie and started to create his show around that premise. So, despite other claims, the show was not a direct rip-off of “Bewitched” as some people have thought for many years.
