With their famous onscreen personalities and Billboard hits, it’s easy to forget that actors and artists are people, too. They have typical everyday experiences just like everyone else. They’re also at risk to be subjected to crime or other dangerous situations, and that’s what happened to these celebrities. Outside of their careers as entertainers, these people have helped save lives and stop crime. See which celebrities have acted like true heroes and the stories behind their courageous deeds. John Oates Subdued a Gunman

John Oates and Daryl Hall of Hall and Oates were touring in Melbourne, Australia back in the 1980s. One night, as the two were having dinner, a man wearing a ski mask and carrying a shotgun entered the room in an attempt to rob the restaurant.

However, before the robber could do any harm, Oates and others overpowered the man by throwing him through a window. He was arrested, and it was later discovered that the was the “Rusty Gun Bandit” who had been going on a crime spree for some time.

Anthony Kiedis Saved A Baby’s Life

While filming an episode of “Carpool Karaoke” with James Corden, frontman of the Red Hot Chili Peppers Anthony Kiedis sprung into action when he saw a woman screaming for help.

Her baby had stopped breathing, and Keidis took the baby to see how he could help. Unfortunately, regular CPR wasn’t working and the baby’s mouth was locked shut. However, he said he was able to get the baby breathing again by “doing a little baby CPR and rubbing the belly.” He did this long enough for the actual paramedics to arrive and the baby lived.

Jamie Foxx Helped After An Accident Outside Of His Home

In 2016, there was a serious car crash in front of Jamie Foxx’s home in Hidden Valley, California. Foxx rushed out of his house to find one of the cars had flipped over, was in a ditch, and was on fire.

With the help of some other witnesses, he managed to drag the driver out of the car to safety. Although the driver had suffered serious injuries from the initial crash, it’s safe to say that he wouldn’t have been alive if it wasn’t for Jamie Foxx and the others that helped.

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman Saved A Shipwrecked Family

In 1996, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were on vacation in the Mediterranean Sea. While sailing on their boat, they saw another ship on fire, with members of a family stranded in the water. Cruise and Kidman came to the rescue for the survivors and pulled them out of the water and onto their ship. They then took them to safety and treated for any injuries.

The boat rescue is not the first time Cruise has helped others. He once helped stop a mugging in London and has paid $7,000 for a woman’s medical bills who was hit by a car.

The director of a golf tournament was lucky Clint Eastwood was there.

Kate Winslet Helped Richard Branson’s Mother From A Fire

In 2011, actress Kate Winslet was in Richard Branson’s private home in the British Virgin Islands when a fire broke out. Branson’s mother Eve was also in the house during the fire and was 90 years old at the time.

She had a hard time getting out on her own, so Winslet picked her up in her arms and carried her outside of the house. Eve didn’t have her contact lenses in, so she didn’t see Winslet coming up from behind her. She suspects that she was moving too slow for Winslet who was trying to get her children out of the house.

Prince Harry Saved A Fellow Polo Player

Back in 2012, a polo player was lucky that Prince Harry was there playing, too. The man was knocked off his horse, unconscious. Harry relied on his basic trauma care knowledge to help him, which he learned during his time serving in the British Army,

Harry laid the polo player on his stomach to prevent him from choking on his own tongue and massaged his neck until he regained consciousness. If he wasn’t there, it’s possible that the man wouldn’t have been handled properly and he could have been seriously hurt or even killed.

Clint Eastwood Stopped A Tournament Director From Choking

While attending a party before the 2014 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Clint Eastwood performed the Heimlich maneuver on the tournament director Steve John. John said he was drinking water and eating appetizers when a piece of food got lodged in his esophagus.

Eastwood noticed that John couldn’t breathe and immediately sprang into action. He did the Heimlich on him three times which John couldn’t believe since he weighs over 200 pounds. John claims that Eastwood ended up saving his life because of his quick reaction to the situation.

Harrison Ford is a real-life pilot, not just in the Star Wars movies.

Mark Harmon Used A Sledgehammer to Save Teens From A Burning Car

In 1994, NCIS actor Mark Harmon helped save two teenage boys from a burning car that had crashed by his home in Brentwood. He used a sledgehammer to break the windows to reach both boys.

The Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman claimed that: “The youths owe their lives to the action of Mr. Harmon.” In 2013, one of the teens and Harmon met up to talk about the accident. The teen said that he owes everything to him and there’s nothing he can do except to pay it forward.

Harrison Ford Used His Helicopter To Find A Lost Boy

Harrison Ford is a hero pilot in real life, and not just in the Star Wars series. In 2011, a 13-year-old Boy Scout had become lost somewhere outside of Yellowstone National Park. The boy had been missing for over 18 hours, so Ford decided to help any way he could.

He volunteered his helicopter and flying skills and worked as part of the rescue team to locate and save the boy. Eventually, Ford and his co-pilot spotted the boy and were able to land and rescue him. Of course, the boy was quite shocked to see Harrison Ford piloting the helicopter.

Gerard Butler Jumped Into Lifeguard Mode

In 1997, Gerard Butler was picnicking with his mother in Scotland. While they were enjoying their day, a boy appeared screaming that his friend was in trouble in the water.

Butler saw the boy struggling in the water and pulled him out. Although he said the boy seemed lifeless in his arms, he ended up being alright. Butler was awarded a certificate of bravery by the Royal Humane Society of Scotland for his actions. He says that he doesn’t think he’s a hero and he’s just happy that everybody was okay.

Patrick Dempsey Rescued A Teen From A Car Wreck

In April 2012, Patrick Dempsey was involved in a real-life Grey’s Anatomy scenario when a teenage boy flipped his car near Dempsey’s home in Malibu, California. Dempsey ran to the scene and using a crowbar and fire extinguisher, got the 17-year-old boy named Weston Masset out of the car and to safety.

Masset had rolled his mustang three times and was left upside down and barely conscious. Afer saving him from the wreckage, Dempsey called an ambulance and waited with the boy along with some other neighbors. He also called Masset’s mother to let her know what had happened.

Vin Diesel Doesn’t Just Act Like He’s A Hero

Vin Diesel is yet another Hollywood star that has proven to be a hero in real life. While driving his motorcycle through Hollywood in 2001, the car in front of him crashed and caught on fire.

Vin Diesel ran to the car and discovered that there was an entire family stuck inside. He got the children out first before instructing the parents on the safest way to exit. The entire family managed to escape the car before the flames completely consumed it. Clearly, some of Vin Diesel’s roles in the past have prepared him for real life-threatening situations.

Ray Davies took a bullet trying to thwart a crime.

Back in 2004, rock and roll singer for The Kinks, Ray Davies was walking around the French Quarter in New Orleans. As he was touring around, he saw a woman being mugged by a group of guys.

At 60 years old, he attempted to stop the robbery by chasing the thieves off. During the skirmish, Davies ended up taking a bullet in the leg. However, the woman was fine except that the thieves got away with her purse. Not everyone can say that they’ve taken a bullet for a stranger, but Ray Davies did!

John Malkovich got his hands dirty to save a life.

Renee Zellweger Saved A Hiker

In 2004, actress Renee Zellweger was walking with her personal trainer at Runyan Canyon in California. Everything was fine until she witnessed a fellow hiker collapse and fall down into the canyon.

Zellweger quickly reacted and ran down into the canyon to help the woman who was about 50 feet in front of them. Zellweger stayed with the woman and took care of her while her personal trainer went to go get help. The paramedics said that the woman was lucky Zellweger was there because the area is full of coyotes.

John Malkovich Stopped The Bleeding Until Help Arrived

While in Toronto, Canada in 2013, John Malkovich was standing outside of a restaurant where a man tripped and fell in front of him. By chance, the pedestrian slit his throat on nearby scaffolding causing him to begin bleeding out. Malkovich ran to the man and applied pressure to his throat.

He managed to keep the man alive until the paramedics arrived to take over the situation. If Malkovich hadn’t acted so quickly or known what to do, it’s likely that the pedestrian might have died. It’s also a good thing that Malkovich wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty.

Jim Harbaugh Saved An Elderly Couple

Universiy of Michigan football head coach Jim Harbough showed his valor off the field after witnessing a terrible car accident in March 2015. While on his way to the airport, the car in front of him flipped multiple times with two elderly passengers inside.

The car crashed and stopped in a snowbank with the driver being partially ejected through the windshield. Harbough and the other person in his vehicle rushed onto the scene and managed to get the driver and the passenger out of the car. They waited with them and kept them warm until help arrived.

Nomar Garciaparra Jumps Into Cold Boston Water To Save Lives

Although Nomar Garciaparra was already a legend in Boston after playing for the Boston Red Sox, he became a real hero after he saved two women that had fallen into the Boston Harbor.

In 2005, he heard a woman in distress after hearing a splash from his condo. He ran out to see what happened and saw that two women had fallen into the harbor. One of them had hit her head and desperately needed help. Luckily for the women, Garciaparra jumped into the freezing October waters and pulled them both out.

Tom Hardy had been training his whole life for this moment.

Tom Hardy Chased Down Moped Thieves

In 2017, actor Tom Hardy witnessed two young men steal a moped in Richmond, London. A witness said he saw Hardy run after the moped in a Hollywood-style chase scene through the gardens and across a building site. In an attempt to get away from Hardy, the moped had crashed into a Mercedes at a busy intersection, injuring both of the thieves.

Hardy caught up with them and yanked them off the moped before patting them down for concealed weapons. He then subdued each of the thieves until the police could come and arrest the two men. This witness recalled the situation saying “Hardy isn’t someone you want to mess with”.

Garth Brooks Saved Boys From A House Fire

In Oklahoma in 2003, Garth Brooks and another unidentified man helped evacuate two young boys from their home that was in the path of a fast-moving brush fire. The two boys were brothers that were 10 and 14 years old and were home on a school break.

Garth Brooks came knocking on the door telling them that they have to get out now before the fire engulfed the house. In the end, the fire department was able to stop the fire just two feet away from the foundation of the house. The boys didn’t know who Garth Brooks was until they were told by a neighbor.

T.I. Prevented A Suicide

In 2010, T.I. helped talk a man out of jumping off the ledge of a 22-story building. T.I. was on his way to shoot a video when he heard the man threatening to jump. T.I. recalls that he felt the need to help. He recorded a video message that the police showed to the man on the ledge.

In the video, T.I. told the man that: “Nothing is that bad. Nothing in life is worth taking your life. I’m here to help you. Please come down to talk to me.” The man eventually stepped back from the ledge and went to the Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.
