While Shailene Woodley may be most-known for starring in films such as The Fault in Our Stars and the Divergent series, she got her start on the TV series The Secret Life of the American Teenager. She played the lead part of Amy Juergens, a pregnant teenager trying to find her way through life. Although the show was extremely successful at times, Woodley became less and less comfortable with the direction that the show was going.

Much like Blake Lively, Woodley felt that the show was straying away from her own morals to the point that it made her uncomfortable. Because the show was catered towards teenage girls, she thought it was becoming inappropriate as her character became and worse and worse role model.
