Dave Chappelle Moved To South Africa
Best known for his eponymous Chappelle’s Show and his role in the stoner comedy, Half Baked, the stand-up comedian and actor walked away from public life right at the moment he reached the top. Having first appeared on screen in the Mel Brooks send-up Robin Hood: Men In Tights, Dave Chappelle abruptly quit during the production of the third season of Chappelle’s Show in 2005 and moved to South Africa.
His unplanned and unexpected retreat came as a result of multiple stressors, from his $50 million contract with Comedy Central to the impact the show had on his stand-up career. Chappelle has since returned, but continues to maintain a low profile.
