People in show business love being in the spotlight, but sometimes they let their egos get the best of them. Did any of your favorites make the list?

Val Kilmer Had Problems With His Directors

kilmer1.jpg

Despite making of millions of dollars through his film work, Val Kilmer became notoriously difficult to work with during the mid-’90s. Richard Stanley directed Kilmer for three days in The Island of Dr. Moreau and revealed, ”Val would arrive, and an argument would happen.” John Frankenheimer replaced Stanley and said: “I don’t like Val Kilmer, I don’t like his work ethic, and I don’t want to be associated with him ever again.” Even Kilmer’s brother thought he was a narcissist. At the time, Kilmer was going through a divorce and was traveling around the world to work on location — perhaps that’s why his behavior was so troubling?

Schumacher Called Val Kilmer Irrational, Childish and Impossible

kilmer2.jpg

In 1995, Joel Schumacher released Batman Forever, starring Kilmer as the caped crusader. The two had so many issues with one another, at one point they refused to speak for two weeks during filming. Following the film’s release, Schumacher said that working with Kilmer was unbearable, telling media outlets: “He was being irrational and ballistic with the first assistant director, the cameraman, the costume people. He was rude and inappropriate. He was childish and impossible. I was forced to tell him that this would not be tolerated for one more second. Then we had two weeks where he did not speak to me but it was bliss!”

Today Val Kilmer Regrets Not Having An Oscar

val3.jpg

Kilmer, who appeared in hit films like The Doors and Top Gun early in his career, has recently battled throat cancer and currently speaks with a rasp. He told CNN in 2017: “Fame is sort of a mess. You get treated differently, but it doesn’t have anything to do with who you actually are.” He added: “I’d get upset when things like Oscars and recognition failed to come my way. I would like to have more Oscars than anybody.” While he has appeared in numerous films since the ’90s (as well as some TV series), it appears the peak of his career has passed, maybe due to his behavior on set.

The next actress had a promising career ahead of her, but then it crashed and burned.

Lindsay Lohan’s Heavy Partying Affected Her Work Ethic

lohan1.jpg

In 2005, Chris Pine worked with Lohan on Just My Luck. He called the experience and media attention on the actress “a real cyclone of insanity, like being around The Beatles.” In 2007, there were problems on the set of Georgia Rule, including arriving late and not showing up to set at all. Morgan Creek Productions CEO James G. Robinson sent her a letter, writing: “We are well aware that your ongoing all-night heavy partying is the real reason for your so-called ‘exhaustion.’ We refuse to accept bogus excuses for your behavior.” Her unprofessional behavior even irked her co-star, Jane Fonda, who told her off.

Lindsay Lohan Was A “Total Nightmare” On The Set Of Glee

Lindsay-Lohan2.jpg

In 2012 Lindsay Lohan made an appearance on Glee, but it was not a good experience for those who worked with her. A source from the show told E! News that she was never on time and didn’t like the job: “Lindsay was a total nightmare. She was three hours late in the morning, and when she did finally arrive, she just didn’t want to be there. She did not want to work. She had not memorized her lines, and she kept disappearing so no one could find her … she has rubbed [the staffers] all the wrong way by being so disrespectful of everyone else’s schedule.”

Hollywood Execs Keep Giving Lindsay Lohan Opportunities To Redeem Herself

lohan3.jpg

Lindsay Lohan later admitted to Oprah that she had a problem with tardiness. But she was increasingly unreliable, and during her stint in the play Speed The Plow in London, they had to feed her the lines. She was dumped by a publicist and is reportedly difficult to insure. Add that to her rap sheet of drug and alcohol offenses, and you can see why she’s struggled to succeed in the industry. Yet, she keeps getting offered work. According to Variety, she has been cast in season 2 of Rupert Grint’s series Sick Note, set to air in 2018.

Next, see how Edward Norton paid the ultimate price for being too pushy with his creative direction.

Edward Norton Meddled Too Much With The Incredible Hulk Script

the-incredible-hulk.jpg

In 2008, Edward Norton met with director Louis Leterrier to star in a reboot of Hulk. The actor agreed to the project on one condition: his suggestions for the screenplay would be used in the script. Norton proceeded to make a substantial rewrite of the script just a few weeks before shooting started, but it was far too late to change anything big. The director added Norton’s changes, but Marvel hated it, particularly the addition of more dialogue and character development, which Norton had inserted into the script. When the Hulk returned as part of The Avengers, Marvel replaced Norton with Mark Ruffalo.

Edward Norton Thinks He’s An Expert On Everything

MCDREDR EC043

Edward Norton later wrote about the experience on Facebook: “It seems it won’t work out for me…I sincerely hoped it could happen and be great for everyone, but it hasn’t turned out as we all hoped.” Four years later he claimed that he just didn’t like doing sequels. It wasn’t the first time he messed with a script. In 2002, Edward Norton played FBI profiler Will Graham in the Silence of the Lambs sequel Red Dragon. When he showed up on set, he brought the director Brett Ratner several pages of the script that he had rewritten (and not been asked to do). Needless to say, his input was not appreciated.

Edward Norton’s Last Film Bombed At The Box Office

norton3.jpg

Edward Norton has also fought with Paramount over contract negotiations, particularly about appearing in The Italian Job in 2002. The studio nearly had to sue the actor to appear in the film. On the set of Death to Smoochy, he clashed with the costume designer because he wanted a suit made of hemp designed by Armani. The actor also demanded he make his own edit of American History X. Director Tony Kaye was so incensed, he told a reporter that Norton was “a narcissistic dilettante who raped the film.” Norton’s most recent film, Collateral Beauty, bombed at the box office.

Say it ain’t so! Is everyone’s favorite Glee star is actually a nightmare to work with?

Lea Michele Was A Diva On The Set Of Glee

lea.jpg

Naya Rivera starred alongside Lea Michele in Glee and the pair didn’t get along. Rivera recalled a time that their co-star Chris Colfer wrote an episode and brought some dogs with him to the set. While Rivera didn’t name names, people knew who she was talking about when she wrote in her book that one particular Glee star decided to “amp up her b**** factor” by making “a huge deal about the dogs, and demanded hand sanitizer any time one came near her.” The tension between the two women got so bad, that their feud may have even cost Rivera her job.

Lea Michele Reportedly Stalled Production & Threw Fits On Set

lea2.jpg

In 2014, Naya Rivera was so upset with Lea Michele’s behavior on the set of the FOX show that she complained about it to the higher-ups. The very next day Rivera found out that she had been let go. She wrote in her book Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes, and Growing Up: “So I guess you can throw a b*** fit, lock yourself in your trailer, stall production yet still allegedly find time to leak stories to the press. I think Rachel— erm, I mean Lea— didn’t like sharing the spotlight. In the end, I do wish that Lea and I had gotten along better, but I’m not losing sleep over it.”

Lea Michele Continues To Be A Hard-Working TV Actress

lea3.jpg

While working on Broadway’s Spring Awakening, Lea Michele reportedly freaked out when the air conditioner broke. Her colleague claimed the actress “kept threatening to call SAG about the unsafe working conditions.” But despite her dubious reputation behind the scenes, Michele landed a role on the short-lived series Scream Queens, which was also created by Glee’s Ryan Murphy. She’s said that she and Murphy are good friends. Michele is currently starring on The Mayor and says she looks up to the careers of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. On her latest role, she said: “I wanted something that felt similar in that sort of trajectory for me.”

Kevin Smith Said Working With Bruce Willis Was “Soul Crushing”

willis1.jpg

Kevin Smith directed Bruce Willis in Cop Out and had a horrible time working with the action star. He revealed in a 2011 interview: “It was difficult. I’ve never been involved in a situation like that where one component is not in the box at all. It was f*****g soul-crushing.” He added that Willis was not only a problem on set. He also didn’t want to pose for pictures to be used on the film’s promotional poster. Smith noted, “I mean, a lot of people are gonna be like, ‘Oh, you’re just trying to blame the movie on him. ‘I had no f*****g help from this dude whatsoever.”

Bruce Willis Was Fired From A Woody Allen Film

willis2.jpeg

In 2015, Bruce Willis claimed he had scheduling conflicts regarding the stage adaption of Stephen King’s Misery and was forced to drop out of Woody Allen’s period piece Cafe Society. Yet the rumor was that Willis was fired because he didn’t know the lines. Twitter user Tom O’Leary tweeted: “Yep. Fired. A friend is on the film. Bruce couldn’t remember a line. Cue cards were no help. Cast were losing their minds.”

Sylvester Stallone worked with Willis on “Expendables 3 and although he didn’t name names, he tweeted about a co-star in 2013: “GREEDY AND LAZY …… A SURE FORMULA FOR CAREER FAILURE.”

Still, Bruce Willis Has No Trouble Landing Acting Gigs

willis3.jpg

Despite the problems Bruce Willis allegedly has had behind the scenes, he doesn’t seem to have a problem getting acting jobs. He starred in half a dozen films in 2016 and 2017, although none of them were big money makers. He also has a lot on his plate for the coming year. He’s hosting the TV show Gershwin Prize for Popular Song and will appear in the kidnapping drama Acts of Violence. He’s also rumored to reprise his role as John McClane in Die Hard Year One. His film Death Wish hits theaters in the spring of 2018 and he’ll also appear in The Bombing.

Find out why everyone hates Chevy Chase next.

Chevy Chase Was A “Vicious” Put-Down Artist On The Set Of SNL

chase1.jpg

Chevy Chase is notoriously hard to work with, according to many who’ve starred alongside the actor or directed him. In the book Saturday Night: A Backstage History of Saturday Night Live, the writers note that Chase was known as “a viciously effective put-down artist, the sort who could find the one thing somebody was sensitive about — a pimple on the nose, perhaps — and then kid about it, mercilessly.” Chase would also mock the writers, telling them that their ideas weren’t very good. He gave little credit to his colleagues during interviews, ordered people around, bragged about his fame, and did a lot of cocaine.

Chevy Chase Has Been Described As Deceitful & Dishonest

chase2.png

Chevy Chase was close with SNL producer Lorne Michaels until he suddenly quit the show at the end of his contract. He also fired his manager. According to one writer, “Chevy was a scumbag the way he left. Deceitful and dishonest about the whole thing.” Chase said his reason for leaving was “money. Lots of money.” He also ticked off SNL co-stars such as Jane Curtin and Bill Murray. In 1985, he suggested gay cast member Terry Sweeney appear in a sketch where they weighed him every week to see if he had AIDS. In the ’90s, Chase asked a female writer to pleasure him.

Work Has Slowed Down Since Chevy Chase Left Community

chase3.jpg

Despite his reputation for being very difficult, Chevy Chase landed a role on the TV comedy Community in 2009. He famously feuded with show creator Dan Harmon, who leaked a profane voicemail the actor had left him. Chase also completely alienated his co-stars, many of whom were women. Yvette Brown once said: “Maybe he was from a time when women weren’t empowered enough to speak up.” He’s appeared in several films since leaving the show in 2014, many of which have been bit parts. 2015’s Vacation grossed just $58 million at the box office and received just 26 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Jennifer Lopez Has A Reputation For Being A Diva

Jennifer Lopez Has A Reputation For Being A Diva

Jennifer Lopez reportedly has a long list of demands movie execs must comply with if she stars in a film. She’s also been known to have a fit if things don’t go her way. She told the Hollywood Reporter in 2016: “I was always fascinated by how I could see (a man) being late or being belligerent to a crew and it being totally acceptable. Meanwhile, I’d show up 15 minutes late and be berated. Like, we’re not allowed to have certain opinions or even be passionate about something, or they’ll be like, ‘God, she’s really difficult.’ It’s like, ‘Am I? Am I difficult because I care?’”

Jennifer Lopez Defends Herself: “I’ve Always Been A Hard Worker”

lopez2.jpg

Jennifer Lopez told the Hollywood Reporter that she doesn’t like being known as a diva because she isn’t one. “I got a moniker of being ‘the diva,’ which I never felt I deserved — which I don’t deserve — because I’ve always been a hard worker, on time, doing what I’m supposed to do, and getting that label because you reach a certain amount of success,” she explained. She revealed that she often feels “crippled to voice her opinion.” She added, “Especially because certain directors and the boys’ club that they form can make you feel like, ‘Oh, I can’t say anything.'”

Jennifer Lopez Shows No Sign Of Slowing Down In Show Business

lopez3.jpg

Jennifer Lopez, who is also a very successful singer, has worked steadily on the big and small screens throughout her career. Despite her reputation for being a diva, she has no problem finding people who will work with her. She currently stars as a police officer in the TV drama Shades of Blue. In 2018, she will appear in the romantic comedy Second Act and the made-for-TV movie Bye Bye Birdie Live! She is working on some music with DJ Khaled and collaborating with Cardi-B. Considering that Charlie Sheen was fired from the show he starred on, Two And A Half Men, it comes as no surprise that he’s difficult to work with. His struggle with alcohol and drugs was in plain sight on the set of the hit TV show, as costars and the crew said there were times when Sheen “couldn’t get it together” and they had to stop filming. Whether he was angry, absent, or couldn’t remember his lines, it was extremely disruptive and pushed everyone to the point where Sheen had to be cut.

Money and Sheen

At his peak, Charlie Sheen was the highest paid actor on television, but it also ended up destroying his chances of becoming the true actor he dreamed of becoming. At one point, he was being paid $1.8 million per episode in the series Two and a Half Men which people regarded him as charming when he first started. However, people began to notice a change in Sheen once the money started coming in. It’s been attributed that the money as well as the same old jokes on the show eventually drove him crazy and sucked the show right out of him.

Charlie Sheen’s Diagnosis

In 2017, Charlie Sheen told NBC’s Today Show that he was diagnosed as HIV-Positive and that a few people knew about it, yet demanded money in order to keep it a secret. He just wanted to clear the air and let everyone know so that he no longer had to live with this secret. However, he wasn’t going to just let his diagnosis get the better of him. In 2017, Sheen was in two films titled mad Families and 9/11, proving that he isn’t entirely out of the game just yet. We’re sure that we can expect some more action from Sheen in the near future.

Although Russel Crowe is known as a powerhouse actor, starring in action-packed yet tasteful films such as Gladiator, Master, and Commander: Far Side of the World and more. Apparently, all of his energy and bruteness doesn’t just stay behind the camera. He has been known get quite rowdy on and off of the set of his films. He is no stranger to physical altercations and other emotional behavior. On the set of Gladiator, he even got so upset with film producer Brank Lustig, that he wanted out of the production for fear of his own life.

He’s Gotten Flack For Being Sexist

flackforsexism.jpg

Alongside his short fuse, Crowe has also been known to make rather crude comments about women that he doesn’t find to be as offensive as they really are. In an interview with Australian Women’s Weekly, he commented that, “I think you’ll find that the woman who is saying that the roles have dried up is the woman who at 40, 45, 48, still want to play the ingénue, and can’t figure out why she’s not being cast as a 21-year-old”. The biggest problem with this is that he told this to a woman’s magazine which certainly didn’t attract many females to want to work with as they once might have.

As it turns out while working on Star Trek for all of those years, William Shatner was not all that well-liked and was known to have numerous feuds going on with different members of the cast. He was described as being jealous and always needing to be the center of attention. In 2015, this stubbornness was demonstrated when Shatner decided not to go to Leonard Nimoy’s funeral because of a feud the two had that predated Star Trek. Although he says that he accidentally missed his flight, that was no surprise to anybody.

Feud With George Takei

One of Shatner’s most well-known feuds was with George Takei which has been going on for over five decades now. This animosity was quite obvious during the Roast of William Shatner on Comedy Central when Takei really laid in on Shatner to the point that it was obviously personal. Although the point is to be as harsh as possible, it got a little real when Takei closed with the statement “F***k you and the horse you rode in on”. In an interview with Bill Maher, Takei even went on to say that he was so hard to work with, that he was the only cast member that didn’t know Takei was gay.

Mel Gibson Has A Dark Side

It’s no secret that Mel Gibson has had a bit of a rocky past in his issues with alcoholism, anti-Semitic remarks, and violent phone calls to his wife. But working with him apparently wasn’t all sunshine lollipops and rainbows either. Around 12 years ago, Mel Gibson won the title of the most hated man in Hollywood, which made many people shy away from working with him for numerous reasons. He was seen as a liability, violent, angry, and completely unpredictable. Many believed that he would actually never end up working again because of his behavior and saw working with him as a death sentence. That was until he cleaned up his act.

Andrew Garfield Had Reservations About Working With Him

Andrew Garfield revealed that he was “warned off” working with Mel Gibson on the film Hacksaw Ridge, arguably the film that rocketed him into stardom after his breakthrough Spiderman role. Garfield told talk show host Graham Norton that Mel’s past reputation in not just Hollywood but life, in general, was “a big thing for me to look at” prior to signing the contract to work on the film. he said that he’d read and heard about everything that had happened although he still admired him as an actor. But he needed to meet him in order to make up his mind. However, after meeting him, he knew that he’d moved on from his past transgressions.

Gibson Made A Comeback

Although Mel Gibson had made quite the name for himself on both sides of the spectrum some years back, his recent work has shown some clear promise for the future. After his DUI, anti-Semitic and racial remarks against African Americans, it seemed that all hope was lost for Gibson. Yet in 2016, he came out with his first directing role since 2006 with his film Hacksaw Ridge. He went on to receive a directing honor at the Hollywood Film Awards accompanying a standing ovation for his overall comeback. Although it took 10 years, it seems that Gibson is back and ready to play ball again.

Dustin Hoffman Sexually Harassed Meryl Streep On Set

meryl-streep-dustin-hoffman.jpg

Back in 1979, Meryl Streep told TIME that not only was Dustin Hoffman difficult to work with but that he has sexually harassed her the first time they met while she was auditioning for Kramer vs. Kramer. Describing the interview to TIME, Steep said: “He came up to me and said, ‘I’m Dustin—burp—Hoffman,’ and he put his hand on my breast,” Streep said. “What an obnoxious pig, I thought.”

Steep went on to get the part and she and Hoffman famously clashed on set. In one instance, Meryl suggested altering a climactic scene to shed light on her character’s motivation. When writer-director Robert Benton agreed, Hoffman reportedly exploded and said: “Meryl, why don’t you stop carrying the flag for feminism and just act the scene?”

Many People Have Said Dustin Hoffman Is Difficult

dustin-hoffman-2.jpg

On top of his now famous beef with Meryl Streep, many others have echoed her sentiment and said Dustin Hoffman is difficult to work. Lots of people believe this is do to him being a perfectionist. Wanting creative control over everything related to his performance in a project, the 80-something star even admits he’s difficult. This isn’t too surprising, considering The Graduate star has had such a long and successful career spanning more than five decades. Although he’s earned a reputation for being very off-putting on set, it hasn’t curtailed his career, and he has continued to be cast in a variety of roles throughout the years.

Dustin Hoffman Doesn’t Think He’s That Difficult

dustin-hoffman-3.jpg

If one thing’s for sure, Dustin Hoffman is well aware of his reputation for being difficult to work with and isn’t afraid to say that he thinks this label is unfair, considering other actor’s bad behavior. “I live in a community where there are much more objectionable things being done than disagreeing with a director,” Hoffman told The Guardian. “I mean, Jack Nicholson threw a television set at Roman Polanski, Bill Murray picked up the producer and threw her in the water, and Gene Hackman would throw a director from one end of the room to another, and I always thought, why have I got this reputation…”

Gwyneth Paltrow Is Cold And Demanding On Set

gwyneth-paltrow-3.jpg

Gwyneth Paltrow has had an impressive career over the last 20 years. She’s starred in the Oscar-winning Shakespeare In Love, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Se7en, just to name a few. There’s no doubt that the star is talented, but she isn’t the most liked star either.

On multiple occasions, it’s been said that Paltrow isn’t easy to work with due to her coldness and demanding nature on set. According to IMDB, “Paltrow is said to be ultra-competitive and can be unfriendly to people she sees as rivals. She apparently refused to speak to Scarlett Johansson on the set of Iron Man 2.”

Is Gwyneth Paltrow The “Most Hated Celeb”?

gwyneth-paltrow-1.jpg

What makes Gwyneth Paltrow’s case even more interesting is that not only is she notoriously bad to work with, but she is seemingly hated by…everyone. At least according to Star Magazine, she is. In 2013, the publication named her the “Most Hated Celebrity.” And while they didn’t list reasons, it’s easy to see that they aren’t alone in their opinion. Google “Gwyneth Paltrow annoying quotes” and more than 266,000 results appear. But why exactly does everyone feel so negatively about the star? We have a hunch….

Gwyneth Paltrow Would Rather Smoke Crack Than Eat Cheez Whiz

Gwyneth-Paltrow-2.jpg

Gwyneth Paltrow has earned herself a reputation for being one of the most pretentious stars out there. But perhaps what adds insult to injury is that she is so contradictory, claiming she’s just like us but then always reminding us she’s better. Associate editor Louis Peitzman says: “ the whole idea that she insists she’s relatable and like everyone else, but she makes it clear time and again that she’s just not.”

Want proof? Here are a few memorable Paltrow quotes: “I’m really (expletive) good at my job. People who are interesting and good know that, and that’s all that matters.” “I am who I am; I can’t pretend to be somebody who makes $25,000 a year.” And of course, “I would rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a can.”

Christian Bale’s Infamous Blow-Up

Christian Bale’s Infamous Blow-Up

Christian Bale had perhaps one of the most famous on-set blow-ups ever, which has solidified him as one of the most notoriously difficult actors to work with in Hollywood. While filming Terminator: Salvation, director of photography Shane Hurlbut apparently interrupted an intense action scene. Bale was more than furious and completely exploded on set.

Bale halted all work and began shouting: “Am I going to walk around and rip your (expletive) lights down, in the middle of a scene? Then why the (expletive) are you walking right through? Ah-da-da-dah, like this in the background. What the (expletive) is it with you? What don’t you (expletive) understand?

Bale’s rant went on for nearly five whole minutes as he continue berating Hurlbut. Unfortunately for Bale, video of his episode was leaked and now live on the internet forever.
