It seems as though tabloid headlines often feature celebrities seen on Dancing with the Stars getting cozy with their on-air dance partner. Can you blame them? With movie star looks and seductive dance moves, it’s only a matter of time before the passion flows! Check out this list of alleged Dancing with the Stars love matches, including some that are quite scandalous!
A.C. Slater’s Love Match
In season 3 of the show, dancer Karina Smirnoff was paired with Saved by the Bell hunk Mario Lopez. Sparks flew immediately for the two and they soon embarked on a relationship off the dance floor. The couple remained together for two years, and for a time things even seemed like they were getting quite serious. However, happily ever after was not to happen for Karina and Mario and the two parted ways for good in 2008. The rumors said that Mario was cheating on Karina, which is definitely something he has been accused of in past relationships including his brief marriage to Doritos model Ali Landry. Needless to say, upon their split Karina’s rep released a statement that said, “The relationship wasn’t heading in the right direction.”
98 Degrees Of Scandal!
Cheryl Burke was rumored to be involved with her married dance partner when she was paired with former boy-bander Drew Lachey in 2006. Two years later a tabloid speculated that the two were having an affair. This was extremely painful for Lachey’s family, although they are certainly no stranger to tabloid fodder as his brother Nick Lachey was formerly married to Jessica Simpson and currently to Vanessa Minnillo. Needless to say, both Drew and Cheryl strongly denounced the rumors. Cheryl even got some advice from fellow dancer Tony Dovolani who said, “I told Cheryl, ‘You just have to not listen.’” Tony was also plagued by similar allegations when he was matched with country star Sara Evans.
Living Out A Country Song
Tony Dovolani also faced rumors about having a romantic relationship with his dance partner, after he was paired with country music star Sara Evans back in 2006. However, partway through the show Sara abruptly exited the show amid news that she filed for divorce from her husband. Allegedly, the reasoning at the time was that her husband was having an affair with her children’s nanny. However, in papers later filed by her estranged husband, he accused Sara of having multiple affairs. One of the names dropped in the scandalous paperwork included none other than her dance partner Tony Dovolani. However, the two admonished the claims as Sara’s husband attempted to get back at her for the divorce.
Dancing Sensations Find Love…And Heartbreak
Karina has been involved in quite a few relationships throughout her tenure on the show. Not long after her painful breakup with Mario Lopez, she found love on the dance floor again. This time, however, she paired with fellow professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who has since become a celebrity in his own right. Only six months after the dancing duo began dating they became engaged. However, their love match was not to last and they called off their romance only a short time later. However, unlike her split from Mario, Karina and Maksim seemed to keep their split rather amicable.
Another DWTS Affair Rumor
Professional dancer Cheryl Burke has quite a few dancer-celebrity relationships under her belt since the inception of the show. In 2014, Cheryl was booKed with actor Antonio Sabato Jr. The two had an undeniable chemistry on the floor which led to many speculating that there might be something going on off the floor as well, although both members of the duo maintained that their partnership was nothing but professional. Antonio is married and Cheryl was in a relationship with a “loving boyfriend” at the time. Antonio certainly wasn’t the first time that Cheryl was linked to a celebrity dance partner!
A Pretty Little Love Match
Val Chermovisky is Maksim’s younger brother who also grew up as a professional dancer and later joined the popular TV show as a celebrity dance partner. In addition to dancing, the brothers have something else in common – partner romances. Val has been linked to a few different women over the run over the show, including Jannel Parrish. Jannel is an actress who had a major role on the show Pretty Little Liars. Apparently, the two hit it off right from the get-go and they were later spotted around the town engaged in various types of PDA. However, it seems like the fling might have just been throughout the show as the two have since parted ways.
An Unlikely Duo
In 2017 and the 23rd Season of Dancing with the Stars, Val Chermovisky was paired with the very sexy Amber Rose. Amber is known for being a former exotic dancer who first gained notoriety during her relationship with rapper Kanye West. Amber later met, married and divorced popular rapper Wiz Khalifa, although the two do share a son together. Needless to say, after she was paired with Val the two began what some might have considered an unlikely romance. The two were spotted after she was eliminated from the show languishing affection upon one another. They even made it “Instagram official” — sharing photos of themselves on their respective accounts. They later split after only five months together. However, Amber spoke to People magazine and made it clear that “nobody was dumped”. Sounds like a pretty tame breakup to us!
A Cheetah Girl On The Prowl
Singer and dancer Sabrina Bryan was best known for her work with the girl group called The Cheetah Girls. It’s no surprise that she decided to take a turn on Dancing with the Stars. In her season, she was partnered with Mark Ballas. The two immediately hit it off and began dating. They even appeared at public events together which definitely signifies a true relationship in Hollywood. Viewers were pretty shocked when the dynamic duo was voted off the show, particularly because of Sabrina’s already honed dance skill. Sadly, just like their time on the show, the relationship also fizzled out soon after they were off the show.
One In A Billion
Perhaps one of the most romantic of all the love matches throughout the seasons of Dancing with the Stars is that of Robert Hervajec and Kym Johnson. Robert has a very inspirational story as the child of immigrants who was able to forge an extremely successful business into billionairehood. He is now known for altruistic nature on the hit show Shark Tank. When he joined Dancing with the Stars during the 20th season, little did he know that he would be in the running for something other than a mirror ball trophy. Robert was paired with Australian dancer Kym Johnson and the two were immediately swept up in a whirlwind romance. The two are also one of the only couples to remain together and have since had a fairytale wedding.
Big Time Love Match
James Maslow is an actor and singer best known for being a member of Big Time Rush. He later appeared on Dancing with the Stars where he was paired with beautiful blonde Peta Murgatroyd. The two had an undeniable chemistry and even played it up for audiences with a highly talked about kiss for the cameras. Apparently, the two actually dated before James was even cast on the show which is probably why he was partnered with her in the first place. They maintained that they were just friends but they definitely played everything up for votes. Whether there was any true romance or it was all showmance is still up for debate.
Ice Skating Sensation
Olympian ice skater Meryl Davis was paired with Maksim Chmerkovskiy during season 18. Audiences everywhere were convinced that the two were an item. How could they not be? There chemistry on the dance floor was definitely palpable. They all but refused to answer any questions about whether or not they were an actual couple but ultimately it was reported they “were just friends”. Perhaps the rumors were simply a way to get audiences to tune in and vote for the duo. It certainly worked because they won the entire season, which was a first for Maks. Maksim exited the show after this season but later returned in season 23.
A Flirty Fling
In 2010, dancer Cheryl Burke was paired with former football player Chad Ochocinco. The two definitely hit it off and many speculated that they were dating off-screen. Cheryl later wrote a book that while they never official dated they did have a “fling”, so take that as you will. Chad also apparently lavished gifts on the beautiful star which included a diamond necklace and a $10,000 ring. She said that she later returned the items and told Wendy Williams when questioned about the relationship, “We had a fling. A little flirty fling. Like, a little flirt, flirt. That’s it.”
An American Pie Connection
Dance Derek Hough was paired with American Pie hottie Shannon Elizabeth way back in season six. This relationship accounted for one of the only “legit” relationships throughout the show’s tenure on air. The two continued their courtship off the dance floor and continued dating for over a year after the show ended. The two later split up and announced it to their friends in a very sweet way, by finishing each other’s tweets. Derek started on Twitter saying, “Hi everyone, we wanted you all to know directly from us, that Shannon & I have decided to end our relationship as boyfriend & girlfriend…,” and Shannon finished with a Tweet of her own saying, “However, we love and care about each other very much and will remain friends and in each others lives.”
One Dynamic Duo
Erin Andrews is best known as the sports journalists who was horrifyingly violated after a terrifying fan filmed her without her knowledge while she changed in her hotel room. Erin did not let this experience stop her from accomplishing her goals, however, and she later appeared on the show where she was paired with resident hunk Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Of course, rumors immediately swirled about the good-looking pair and they even had a routine where they cavorted on a bed! Needless to say, the two maintained they were just friends. Maks was not the only one impressed with Erin and she was later offered a spot as the show’s cohost.
A Country Love Affair
Country singer Chuck Wicks and beautiful blonde dancer Julianne Hough (and younger sister of Derek) were the only duo to begin on the show when they had already been in a relationship. Of course, they hoped their off-air chemistry would translate to the dance floor but Chuck doesn’t seem like the dancing type. They were eliminated in the eighth round and also later eliminated one another in real life when they broke up not too long after. It all seemed to work out in the long run because Julianne recently married her boyfriend in a fairytale wedding and has also been working as a judge on the show.
The Golden Couple of DWTS
Here’s another fairytale duo from the show. Petra Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmervoskiy both starred on Dancing With The Stars. Of course, they were never paired with one another but they ultimately found love together. They first dated from 2012 till 2013 but parted ways. However, they later gave it another shot and got back together in 2014, getting engaged around one year after. They welcomed their first son, named Shai Aleksander, in January of 2017. Maks joked about his new role to People magazine saying, “Listen, when this thing gets heated, and I need to pull out my secret weapon, I’m going to roll up to rehearsal with a baby in a harness. You know, look sexy as hell. The happy couple are now married.
Following In His Brothers’ Footsteps
Maksim’s younger brother isn’t the only one to be getting along swimmingly in the romance department. Val is seemingly following in his brother’s footsteps by dating fellow dancer Jenna Johnson. The two have continuously posted photos of each other on social media and have been seen canoodling out in public. Apparently the two have been dating on and off for over two years. Perhaps Val’s newly settled down brother will inspire him to walk down the same path with Jenna. According to People, Val and Jenna are currently back on. Jenna is also back on with Dancing with the Stars. To the news about her return to the show Val told People, “I think she’s an incredible talent. I’m a huge fan. I think she’s the best girl here, so I’m excited to see her here.”
An Olympic Love Match
Gymnast Shawn Johnson was matched up with professional dancer Mark Ballas shortly after winning big at the Olympics. At the time, she apparently thought she was winning big her in love life as well and she and Mark had an on-set love affair. The duo’s chemistry was definitely obvious to the audience and they ended up taking home the mirror ball trophy in season 8. It sounds like things were quite passionate as the two ultimately had a “bad breakup”. They later reunited years later for Dancing with the Stars: All Stars, although they were both married to different people then.
Maksim Admits To Blonde Bombshell Love
Blonde bombshell Willa Ford is most known for her 2000’s era singing career but most people don’t know that she had a fling while on Dancing with the Stars. Willa was paired with DWTS’s resident hunk, none other than Maksim Chmerkovskiy. While Maksim has remained mum regarding his love life with others who have starred on the show, with the exception of his now wife Peta, Willa Ford is the one romance he has admitted to. Although there have been tons of rumors almost anytime he is paired with anyone, in 2015 Maks admitted, “’I did not have any relations with any of my partners… well, one! ‘Willa Ford, we dated for a little while.’”
A Puppy Love For The Ages
Perhaps the oldest of romances that took place on the show was again between two dancers – Julianne Hough and Mark Ballas. The two grew up dancing together and both Julianne and Dereck Hough lived with Mark and his mother dance instructor Shirley Ballas. (Random side note: Did you know that Julianne Hough was a child extra in the first Harry Potter movie?) Julianne and Mark were partnered together as successful child dancers and ultimately fell in love as teenagers. Mark even called Julianne his “first love”. The two later parted ways and came into a tricky situation after both of the Hough siblings accused Mark’s mother of being abusive to them as children in London. Yikes!
