These moments between fans and the celebrities and royals they love are embarrassing, offensive and completely shocking for one party or the other. There are moments of cleavage-grabbing, vomit, tears, lies, dinner disruptions, and even marriage proposals. You can easily imagine that celebrities have experienced just about every possible iteration of a come-on, booty-smacking, rude wake-up call, and indecent proposal you can possibly think of (and quite a few you just don’t even want to fathom).
The Unexpected Selfie
Celebrities are people too, so if you treat them as fellow human beings, you may be surprised by how far they’ll go to return the favor. Rude and abusive behavior just won’t get you very far, unless you really want to be dragged off, receive the shrugged off and/or just get that blank-annoyed stare. Either way, you can learn all the details of the most embarrassing encounters right here.
He Got More Than He Paid For
Miley Cyrus is no stranger to controversy, so when a fan grabs her breast, we’d almost think it was some kind of stunt whether it really is appropriate (or super awkward) for a fan to do that. According to reports, the fan photo was at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY.
Whether it was impromptu or explicitly allowed, the encounter ended on a friendly (albeit inappropriate) note. Was that expression fake surprise? Real? Something in between? Then again, the Meet-and-Greets with Cyrus reportedly cost $995, so maybe she really will do just about anything. When asked about the incident, they said, “Miley is just having fun with her fans. She spends time with them and talks to them at meet and greets.” Whatever the juicy details are, it makes for a memorable photo. It’s also what you could say is a perfect example of what not to do when you meet your favorite celebrity star.
Chance The Rapper Freaking Out
Chance the Rapper is an artist who is on the rise in the music industry. He won several Grammy’s the first year he was nominated in 2017 and has already worked with high caliber artists such as Kanye West. His stardom is pretty high right now but during an interview with MTV, he reverted back to a regular fan.
Queen Bey had been walking backstage and happened to stop by Chance during his interview. The moment Chance realized that he had been blessed by the touch of the queen, he lost his mind mid-interview. Very inappropriate for a star.
The Real Deal
John Barrowman (of Dr Who fame) is known to be willing to do just about anything while posing with his fans. From kisses and proposals to allowing fans to pinch his butt and also taking them on in epic superhero battles (as he’s doing here with the Green-Arrow and Black Canary fans).
While it’s obvious that not all celebs or famous person would be willing to play along with fan requests, Barrowman’s good-natured approach leaves his fans adoring him all the more. He even-more-perfectly fills out the part of the quirky, fly-by-the-seat-of-his pants, even funny, fellow you can’t help but love.
Do The Queen’s Eyes Wander?
Many jokes, comments, and some debate and disagreement have surrounded this photo of Queen Elizabeth meeting Paul Hogan in 1980. Of course, Hogan is dressed in shorts, which would appear to be super-casual next to the formal wear that’s evident around him. He doesn’t appear to be phased by how he stands out in the crowd.
Then, too, there’s been a discussion about where the Queen is looking. Is she just looking at Hogan’s arms? Is she looking at his shorts? Whatever the full story of this photo really is, it’s obvious that it’s an awkward moment, captured in this photo.
Oh President, Say It Ain’t So
Probably one of the worst possible reactions when meeting a famous world representative would be to start vomiting (particularly all over the other person). But, that’s exactly what happened with President George H.W. Bush when he vomited on the Prime Minister of Japan, Kiichi Miyazawa, at a banquet in 1992.
It’s the only known incident of any US President vomiting on a foreign dignitary, but it quickly became the subject of jokes, ridicule and parodies both in the US and around the world. USA Today called this embarrassing incident one of the “25 memorable public meltdowns that had us talking and laughing or cringing over the past quarter-century.”
At Least Let The Man Sleep
When asking to take a selfie with a famous celebrity on a flight, you may want to see if they are sleeping before disturbing them. When you wake them up, it makes for a super-awkward situation, but also really odd photographic evidence of the encounter.
If you’ve never met him, of course you’re excited and want to make sure you don’t miss your chance to connect, but celebrities are people too. You have no idea what kind of schedule they are dealing with, or what the situation is for them. It’s best to be respectful, even though it’s likely that such advice will go in one ear and out the other…
J-Law Star-struck By Jack Nick
Jennifer Lawrence still appears to be star-struck when she meets and interacts with famous celebrities. She may always be that way… some stars never really completely lose that sense of awe and wonder when they see those fellow celebrities they’ve so beloved through the years.
Famously, Jack Nicholson interrupted her Oscar interview with Good Morning America, saying: “You did such a beautiful job. I didn’t mean to cross into your interview but I had to congratulate you.” And, he then said, “I’ll be waiting.” Lawrence was also reportedly recently star-struck when she heard that Julia Roberts had mentioned her name.
Fan Looses Control Over The Prince
Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Prince Harry were competing in the Tianjin Goldin Metropolitan Polo Club Charity Cup at the Beaufort Polo Club in Tetbury, England. So, this young fan ran up to get a closer photo.
The brothers appear to take the girl’s excitement in stride (Harry may even be laughing). For some celebrities, this kind of public display of affection would be annoying, particularly since it’s so commonplace. It’s likely that the idea of having a camera thrust in your face at every turn would quickly lose all of its novelty after the first few thousand fans lambasted you too.
Raven’s Death Stare
Raven Symoné has been in her fair share of drama these past several years but lately, it seems to have settled down a tone. That doesn’t exclude things she isn’t fond of from happening to her. Well, in this case, fans will be fans and one fan said something that Raven did not like very much.
“I saw Raven Symoné outside of my office building while I was going out to get lunch,” said fan James Lane. “After I noticed it was her, I shouted, ‘Hey! That’s So Raven!’ She didn’t like it. She didn’t like it at all.”
Get The Will Smith Smack
Regular fan or secret admirer? That is the question we ask for this addition of “When Fans do too much.” Walking the carpet, as he so frequently does, Will Smith comes across plenty of fans and assumably a ton of questionable actions performed by these fans. What this fan did must have sent Smith over the edge.
As he greeted Smith, this fan went in for a kiss and got him on the cheek. As you can see above, Smith was not too fond of this “friendly” gesture so he retaliated with a swift smack to the face. We bet no one else will ever try this again.
Marilyn Monroe Tells It Like It Is
You may think that it’s OK to hug and hang on to famous celebrities, but it’s just annoying and obnoxious. In a now-infamous encounter between Nikita Khrushchev and Marilyn Monroe at 20th Century Fox Studios, he was impressed by her memorized Russian greeting and told her: “You’re a very lovely young lady.”
To the cameras, she said that it was the “biggest day in the history of the movie business,” but to her maid, she later divulged: “He was fat and ugly and had warts on his face and he growled. He squeezed my hand so long and so hard that I thought he would break it. I guess it was better than having to kiss him.” Just because the celebrity smiles and plays their part doesn’t mean it’s a welcome encounter.
Cat’s Death Leads To Unlikely Encounter
One fan wrote, “My cat died while I’ve been in line. (Peter, comfort me during this sadness).” Her sign seems to have worked, and Peter Facinelli, of Twilight, Nurse Jackie, and Can’t Hardly Wait acclaim, gave her a hug. Though it could have easily backfired.
Besides, with that smile, this fan really doesn’t appear to be devastated by her cat’s death. I guess it’s more about just capturing the celebrity’s attention, so lies and embellishments of all kinds are fair game. And, he may just be a good sport.
The Biebs Fans Really Care
The emotion is so overwhelming for some fans that they start bawling when they meet their favorite celebrities. It’s along the lines of being tongue-tied and unable to say a single word, but the intensity of emotions just becomes too much.
In 2012, Justin Bieber surprised several lucky fans, when they try out the brand new Just Dance 4 game. One fan was so ecstatic that she began crying, but all the fans appeared to be completely happy. They were jumping up and down, hugging him and expressing how much they love him.
Spider-Man Doesn’t Care
It’s usually not considered appropriate to interrupt your favorite celebrity star while they’re eating at a restaurant, but fans do it all the time. Then, there are the off-kilter cases, where the fan was trying to be discrete.
Instead of getting upset, walking out of the restaurant, or just ignoring them, Emma Stone (of The Amazing Spider-Man, Zombieland as well as Crazy, Stupid Love, and a number of other movies) and Andrew Garfield (of The Amazing Spider-Man and Never Let me Go acclaim) obviously know that they’re being photographed, and they don’t seem to mind.
Holding On So Tight, Never Letting Go
This fan is holding onto Hulk Hogan and doesn’t appear to be willing to let him go from his obsessively strong grasp. Yeah, it’s more than just a little odd when fans do that, whether you’ve absolutely loved the celebrity FOREVER or not.
Hulk Hogan has had his own controversies, in-and-out of the ring with that hidden sex tape, wrestling moments, the racist name-calling incident and beyond… but he still doesn’t deserve to have a fan clinging onto him for dear life. Let go, for goodness sake!
Did You Take a Shower?
The super-sweaty, dripping armpit hug is just, well, gross. Tom Cruise is still smiling wide, but it may be that he hasn’t yet smelled or felt the wet soggy mess of the oncoming hug. As offensive fandom behavior is concerned, this probably isn’t the ultimate worst thing you could do when meeting your favorite celebrity, but it’s pretty terrible.
It’s possible this guy has been standing in line for hours, surrounded by thousands of other fans, so it’s inevitable that a guy might have some serious perspiration going on. But then again, perhaps he could have brought a spare shirt or used some serious anti-antiperspirant. You’d think something could have prevented this situation.
Remember That Time You Kissed Russell Brand
Russell Brand is, of course, a well-known comedian, actor, activist and author (known as an MTV presenter, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, as well as his voiceover work on the Despicable Me series and Hop. He’s also written several autobiographies and other works, including My Booky Wook, about which The Observer said: “Russell Brand’s gleeful tale of drugs and debaucheryinMy Booky Wookputs most other celebrity memoirs to shame.”
With his varied claims to celebrity, it’s particularly ironic that this kiss should have been captured in just this way. They are out-of-sync, both appear to want a kiss at this very public book-signing, but the chemistry is misaligned. There’s a certain humor to encounters like this, but more often than not the more uncomfortable expressions are because one of them simply doesn’t want to really be there.
Even Eaten Half-Alive?
The most troubling of predicaments is when the celebrity is literally attacked, sometimes with a good deal of violence and intent. The fans are desperate, and they appear unwilling to accept the brush off or anything less than what they’re demanding. Here, it appears that a fan is attempting to eat Khloé Kardashian alive.
With the most extreme examples of abusive and violent behavior by fans and the paparazzi, Jennifer Garner told the Today Show: “What we’re hoping is that our kids’ day-to-day experience will not be of really aggressive men yelling and screaming five feet from their faces.” That would appear to be a rather simple request from any human being, whether they’re of celebrity or royal status or not.
Robin Thicke Caught Getting Grabby
Artist Robin Thicke was at the 2013 MTV VMA’s after-party in New York when he was caught grabbing the bottom of college student and socialite Lana Scolaro. Having a reputation as a party girl, Lana took several photos with Robin that night, both on the red carpet and at the party. Robin was caught red-handed in one of the photos, where the reflection in the mirror behind the two clearly shows his hand up the back of Lana’s dress, grabbing her butt.
His wife at the time, Paula Patton was also at the party. When the photo hit Twitter, a user tagged Paula, commenting, “Look at the reflection girl.” The couple divorced in 2015 after a 10-year marriage.
John Mayer Isn’t So Pleased…
When you’re young, you don’t have that much confidence as it is. However, that doesn’t stop you from wanting to meet one of your favorite musicians. One fan recalls a time when she went to one of John Mayer’s concert and she attempted to meet him but it didn’t turn out how she expected.
“I was young (13, maybe?) stuck around after the concert to meet him,” she said. “He went down the line and hugged all these pretty girls around my age then came to me, gave me a look of disgust, shook his head no and moved on. I was devastated. Don’t worry guys, I turned out pretty good looking.”
