Jeremy Meeks, aka “Felon Bae,” is quite possibly one of the most handsome men on the planet. The blue-eyed criminal has been driving women absolutely crazy and more or less broke the Internet with his insanely good looks.
Who Is the Gorgeous Ex-Con Who Hangs with Nicky Minaj?
Not going to lie – it’s hard to concentrate staring at his tattooed pecs, but bear with us. Click through to find out everything you need to know about this jailbird heartthrob. How did Meeks go from being “the most violent criminal” in Stockton, California to Nicki Minaj arm candy?
Meeks Rose to Fame After His Mugshot Was Posted on Facebook
Jeremy Meeks was just your average convict, having been arrested numerous times since 2002, until his mugshot made its way to Facebook. The Stockton, California Police posted Felon Bae’s mugshot on their page, and it went viral.
Commenters were taken aback by just how handsome he is. One even wrote , Momma, I’m in love with a criminal.” Other posters Photoshopped his handsome mug into fashion spreads. Seriously, Meeks works the camera, even if it’s just for a mugshot. His arrest photo was so popular it got over 87,000 Likes and 18,000 comments.
Meek’s Mugshot Was More Popular Than a Tribute to a Fallen Officer
If there was anything made us hate the Internet even more than we already do, it’s the fact that Meek’s mug was more popular than anything the police have ever posted including a tribute to an officer who died in the field.
“I have not seen that many likes for a photo before,” said Stockton Police Officer Joseph Silva. Silva also admitted that they’ve never gotten this much positive attention since they created their Facebook page in 2012. At most, other posts got a couple hundred likes. It just goes to show you, Meeks’ baby blues are a powerful drug. But really, the fallen officer is a whole lot more important.
Meeks Was “One of the Most Violent Criminals” in His City
The oh-so dreamy felon was your average blue-eyed gang member before a very fateful day three years ago. On June 18, 2014, Meeks was arrested during a gang sweep in Stockton, Calif. He faced five felony weapon charges and two charges of felony street terrorism. Meeks was dubbed “one of the most violent criminals in the Stockton area.”
The sexy criminal was sentenced to 27 months in prison for a single weapons charge and ordered to participate in the 500-Hour Bureau of Prisons Substance Abuse Treatment Program. Unfortunately, there were no photos of his sentencing, but we assure you, he probably looks as good in an orange jumpsuit as he does in literally anything else.
He Probably Killed Someone (But We’re Hoping Not)
Meeks’ tear drop tattoo isn’t just a fashion statement. Meeks, who spent years in prison for grand theft, admitted that he earned his face tattoo for “doing some things in his past he is not proud of.” Mysterious, yes.
While we no one can say for sure if he actually killed someone (as far as we know, he hasn’t been convicted), the Crime Library states that “The most widely accepted meaning of the teardrop is the wearer has killed someone — this is reported to have originated among the Chicano gangs of California.”
Jeremy Meeks Is a Married Father of Three
Apparently the sexy convict isn’t a drug kingpin, nor is he Nicky Minaj’s boy toy – at least that’s the story he’s trying to sell. Meeks is actually married to a woman by the name of Melissa Curl.
Meeks and Curl have a son, and Curl has two other children from a previous relationship. At the time of his arrest, Meeks had been married to Curl for four years and their son was three years old. His family is also really supportive, despite his criminal record. Keep reading to find out what his mother did after his arrest.
His Mom Started a GoFundMe for His Bail Money
Jeremy Meeks’ mom Katherine Angier has always fiercely supported her son despite all of his missteps. As soon as she noticed her handsome son’s viral fame she set up a GoFundMe account in order to raise cash to meet his $900,000 bail.
She even defended him for his gang-related charges and claimed police were just stereotyping him because of his tattoos. To this day, even with all of Meeks’ convictions, Angier insists her son is simply not a criminal. Either she’s in complete denial, blinded by her son’s baby blues or she’s mother of the year! It’s not our place to judge.
Jeremy Meeks Used a Public Defender, Not a Hired Lawyer
In America, you have a right to defend yourself. If you can’t afford a lawyer, one is given to you by the state. During Meeks’ most recent trail, he didn’t hire a lawyer for himself. Instead, he was given a public defender. San Behar managed to get him out of six of his seven charges, and was pretty pleased with the attention surrounding his client’s attractive mugshot. “It’s better than the attention my clients usually get,” he said to CBS 13.
It’s not surprising that Meeks had a public defender before he was famous, but now his riches are astounding.
He Had No Idea He Was Even Famous Until Way Later (Because Prison)
The thing about prison is that you don’t really get to use the Internet. If you did, Meeks might have known he literally became famous overnight. In an interview with News10 Friday, Meeks insisted that he was done with gangs. He also insisted that he had no idea he was famous until he got a chance to speak to his wife.
“I appreciate [the attention],” he said. “But I just want them to know that this is really not me. I’m not some kingpin.”
Meeks’ Sister Had Custody of Him When He Was Growing Up
Meeks has two brothers, Emery Meeks and Bryan Varela, and a sister Leanna Rominger. Rominger, who is 12 years older than him, took over official custody of her younger brother over 20 years ago when he was just 10 years old.
Their mother, Katherine Angier, was in and out of prison throughout their entire childhood and was unable to care for her four children. Rominger did a pretty good job as a sister-turned-surrogate mom. Meeks hadn’t really gotten into much trouble until he was a sophomore in high school.
Meeks Dropped out of School and Stole a Car When He Was 18
Meeks didn’t get into much trouble as a young boy. When he was in grade school, his worst offenses were cutting class and breaking curfew. In tenth grade, things started getting a lot more serious for Jeremy.
He dropped out of school and moved out of the home he shared with his sister. Two months after he turned 18, Rominger was notified by police that her brother was facing felony charges for stealing a car. He served two years for his crimes. That’s when he started getting gang-related tattoos.
Meeks Was Convicted of Forgery for Stealing His Brother’s Identity
Meeks didn’t steal his brother’s identity in the sense that he took is social security number and bought a bunch of things on Amazon with his credit card. Meeks simply gave his brother’s name to the cops when he was arrested.
In 2005, Meeks ran into more trouble with the law when a security guard accused him of trying to steal a pack of pellets. He was not convicted for theft, but rather convicted on a technicality. To get out of trouble, he gave the cops his older brother’s name and ended up serving 71 days in jail for forgery.
He Almost Got Away with His Most Recent Conviction
Jeremy Meeks was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yeah, he was guilty, but if he had just left the house he was in a few minutes earlier, he never would’ve gotten arrested. In a statement, cops said that Meeks was stopped after leaving a house where a search warrant was about to be executed.
The cops searched his car and found a 9mm round of ammunition and a tiny bit of marijuana in the glove compartment. They also found an unregistered and loaded Springfield Armory .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his trunk. But sometimes things really do happen for a reason.
Meeks Signed a Modeling Contract While He Was in Jail
Even while he was in jail, Jeremy Meeks was really tried to get his life together. He embarked on a brand new career path away from being a member of the Crips and signed a contract with White Cross Management. The agency lists him as both an actor and a model on their “talent” page.
To prepare for his career in modeling, Meeks made sure to stay fit in prison. “I eat healthy. I do a lot of push-ups, pull-ups, dips, burpees, and I stay very active,” he told ABC in an interview.
His First Manager Was Gina Rodriquez
Jeremy Meeks got his first talent manager because of his sister. His sister managed to wrangle their mom’s GoFundMe page and used the money raised (about $5,000) to hire a defense attorney, Tia Bogan, and an entertainment manager, Gina Rodriguez. This all sort of backfired.
Bogan requested that he be allowed to wear “civilian clothing that is fitting for his body” during court appearances, and it resulted in headlines mocking his good looks. Meeks’ mother and wife went on Inside Edition, which was fostered by Rodriguez, and it became clear that she was paving a way of success similar to her other TV clients Octomom and Honey Boo Boo.
Meeks Signed with Talent Agent Jim Jordan
Jim Jordan stumbled across Meeks’ photos the same way as the rest of us. He saw them online and didn’t think much of it besides the fact that it was funny. When a friend called Jordan saying he had a connection to Meeks, that’s when the gears started turning.
Jordan’s agency White Cross Management is known for finding and developing unknown talent then lending them to larger agencies for a percentage of profits. He credits himself for finding Gigi Hadid, who he spotted on a beach, but their partnership didn’t end up working out. Meeks, however, ended up fitting perfectly within his mission.
Jim Jordan and Gina Rodriguez Fought over Jeremy
Jordan originally emailed Meeks’ wife about working with him. He immediately got an angry reply back from Rodriguez, who accused him of trying to poach her clients. He assured her that he just wanted to add value and not poach her client. What ended up happening was that Jordan did, in fact, poach Jeremy.
After Rodriguez agreed to put him on their team, Meeks’ wife and Jordan bonded on a trip to see her hot felon hubby. She asked Jordan to take over all management operations and fired Rodriguez. Rodriguez denies being rude to Jordan and says the family was difficult to work with because they constantly fought about money and she was exhausted.
Meeks Made His Fashion Week Debut Walking with Philipp Plein
Meeks was destined for success after his mugshot went viral. A year after his release, the thug-turned-model started posting modeling shots on his Instagram. In February of 2017, he scored his very first New York Fashion Week gig. He walked down the runway for designer Philip Plein.
Tiffany Trump sat front row at the show, which marked a new chapter for the felon. Plus, it’s hard to deny that Meeks isn’t a natural. His signature squint and chiseled cheekbones are extremely high-fashion. We don’t even mind the little tear drop tattoo.
Meeks Is Apparently Super Rich Now
Jeremy Meeks had next-to-nothing growing up, but hi modeling contract catapulted him into financial success. While it’s impossible to tell just how much Meeks is making, his manager Jim Jordan says the lucrative offers are just piling in. These offers include campaigns with major, major fashion brands and designers, potential movies, book deals, and reality non-scripted TV.
According to the manager appearances at club openings in Vegas and Dubai and TV polots are on the table. Meeks now lives in a mansion and drives a Maserati. Not bad for a criminal who came from nothing.
Jeremy Meeks Is Still Haunted by His Past
Meeks may be rising to the top of the modeling world, but his past still haunts him and costs him gigs. In April, he landed a modeling job in the UK and was scheduled for photoshoots in London. He was also set to attend the cover launch for a new issue of Man about Town, but was denied entry to the country.
In the incident, Meeks, his manager, and his wife landed in London and were met by immigration authorities who sent him right back to New York. His documents were all in order, but that’s not always enough if you have such a long record. Meeks was reportedly “very sad” about what happened (bb, let us comfort you).
He’s Dating One Of The Richest Women In The World
In 2017, Jeremy Meeks and 26-year-old British heiress Chloe Green went public with a steamy romance despite the fact that he was still married. Green is the daughter of Sir Philip Green, who owns the $4.9 billion Arcadia fashion group. Meeks and Green have been spotted getting intimate all over the place during the summer, which isn’t exactly helping Meeks’ marriage. His wife, Melissa, who works as a nurse, stayed by his side during his 27-month prison term and is said to be devastated by his public affair. The two are now divorcing, with Melissa claiming that he has not been a devoted husband or father since becoming famous.
