Electrifying! Baby Follows Three Generations Of White Hair Streaks

With shocking hair reminiscent of X-Men’s Rogue, this baby was born with a generational hair streak. Baby MilliAnna was born in South Carolina with one super amazing feature.

MilliAnna has a streak of white hair right in the middle of her otherwise raven mane. This interesting occurrence is known as poliosis. Poliosis, or poliosis circumscripta, is the decrease or absence of melanin in hair including, head hair, eyebrow hair, eyelashes, or any other area with hair. While some think that poliosis is just a birthmark, it is actually decreased or absent melanin in the hair bulbs of hair follicles, while the melanocytes of the skin are not affected. This condition can also be present with various genetic syndromes and conditions, like vitiligo for instance. Poliosis often causes a singular patch of white hair like seen on MilliAnna, or less commonly, multiple white patches on the hair.

This unusual birthmark didn’t take anyone in her own family by surprise, however. The amazing feature has actually been passed down to her in her family. Over three generations on her maternal side have displayed this amazing hair. It can be traced at least to MilliAnna’s great-grandmother Jaonne who possessed the feature. Jaonne passed it on to MilliAnna’s grandmother Jennifer, who then gave the trait to her daughter, and MilliAnna’s mothe,r Brianna.

Brianna, MilliAnna’s mother, was happy to find that her daughter was gifted the special family trait. She said, “We are unsure how far back the birthmark goes as my grandmother was adopted as a child and hasn’t met her biological family. I was hoping she did have it. My younger sister that my mother had a few years after me didn’t get it, so I didn’t know if MilliAnna was going to, but once I had her and they laid her on my chest and I saw she had it I was so happy.”

She says that it is very common to be stopped by strangers who want to ask or comment about the family condition. “We definitely get stopped a lot while out and about on our daily routines. The majority of the time I welcome the polite comments and don’t mind answering the many questions, but honestly, it can be overwhelming at times. When I’m in a rush and just trying to do what I need and keep going.”

She also said that while in school, some children took to bullying her because of her unique looks, but she already knows how she will prepare her daughter, she said, “In elementary school, kids are a little harsher, but when you grow up, it becomes cool. I’m going to tell her, ‘You’re unique, you’re pretty, you’re beautiful.’”

Brianna certainly sounds like she’s prepared to deal with any issues or comments that arise with this unique condition. How amazing is this special trait and who would want to make fun of such a cool look? Maybe she can also share with her daughter that her hair is just like the amazing superhero from X-Men, Rogue!
