In perhaps the most unexpected movie news of 2019, Lionsgate Films has announced that Chris Rock will be producing and starring in a new Saw film. The surprising move by the comedian was one that he championed, after pitching an idea for a new movie to producers of the franchise.

Speaking with Bloody Disgusting, Rock gushed about his surprising new career twist, "I've been a fan of Saw since the first film in 2004. I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place.”

Joe Drake, the chairman of Lionsgate, added, "When Chris Rock came to us and described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins-off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, we were all-in."

Saw was originally released in 2004. It was directed by James Wan, who would go on to direct Star Trek Beyond and Aquaman. When he left for those bigger films, Darren Lynn Bousman took over directorial duties, which he will continue for this new "reimagining."

For Rock, it will be his first horror role, although we wouldn't be surprised if he manages to sprinkle in some comic relief along the way!
