Celebrity Wives Who Are Still Around (And Some We Forgot That Happened)
When two people love each other enough to want to marry each other, it can be a beautiful thing. But when one (or both) of those people are celebrities, things can get complicated. Not only are you signing up to marry someone whose career is as demanding as a marriage, but usually all your business gets put out there as well.
Guys like Harrison Ford and Jeff Bridges have found ways to make their marriages work, but more often than not, celebrity marriages end in divorce. In case you needed a reminder, here are some celebrity wives (and ex-wives!) you likely forgot about.
Calista Flockhart
Harrison Ford is married to actress Calista Flockhart. The pair met while attending the 59th annual Golden Globe Awards in 2002. At the time, Flockhart had just finished her iconic television role as Ally McBeal, for which she won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in 1997.
After seven years of dating, Ford proposed on Valentine's Day. The following year, they tied the knot in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where Governor Bill Richardson and former NM Supreme Court Chief Justice Charles Daniels presided over the wedding. The pair have one son together named Liam, who is adopted.
Lisa Hoffman
Lisa Hoffman married actor Dustin Hoffman in 1980. At the time, the actor had just won his first Oscar for 1979's Kramer vs. Kramer and divorced his first wife Anne Byrne. He and Lisa have four children together, Jacob, Rebecca, Maxwell, and Alexandra.
On her own, Lisa Hoffman has become a successful businesswoman. The University of Colorado at Boulder graduate became the founder and president of Lisa Hoffman Beauty in 2007. The brand focuses primarily on fragrances and in 2008 was named "Newcomer of the Year" by Women's Wear Daily magazine.
Sandra Knight
For a brief moment in time, Jack Nicholson had a wife named Sandra Knight. Knight may well have been a star in her own right, starting out as an actress in a plethora of low-budget films including Frankenstein's Daughter and The Terror.
Knight and Nicholson got married in 1962 and were separated for two years before their divorce was finalized in 1968. Within that time, they had one daughter named Jennifer. Though Nicholson has had relationships and kids with other women, he never got married again after his marriage with Knight.
Annette Bening
Annette Bening certainly isn't forgotten and that's because she has a successful career on her own. The two-time Golden Globe award winner's name is mentioned on its own so much that we often forget she's married to none other than Hollywood legend Warren Beatty!
The two fell in love on the set of 1991's Bugsy. After having lunch together during filming, Beatty reportedly told director Barry Levin, "I love her, and I'm going to marry her." They got married the following year and have since had four kids, two boys and two girls.
Joanne Woodward
Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman first met around 1953. He was to star in a play called Picnic, for which she was an understudy. Their paths didn't cross again until a few years later on the set of The Long, Hot Summer. Though Newman was married at the time, he was taken by Woodward and left his wife for her.
The couple married in 1958 and throughout their relationship, they were considered "Hollywood's Golden Couple." Shortly after celebrating 50 years of marriage, Newman passed away from lung cancer in 2008. Woodward has since remained out of the spotlight.
Maggie Johnson
Maggie Johnson met Clint Eastwood on a blind date in 1953. They had a whirlwind romance that culminated in marriage just six months after they met, but this marriage wasn't an easy one. Not only did Eastwood have a secret love child with another woman when he started dating Johnson, but much of his first marriage was littered with affairs and a second love child.
Johnson and Eastwood, despite having two legitimate children together, couldn't make things work and divorced in the '80s. Eastwood got remarried to Dina Ruiz in 1996 but the two called it quits in 2014.
Lola Van Wagenen
Lola Van Wagenen is a historian and activist who used to be married to actor Robert Redford. Van Wagenen was Redford's first wife and together they had four children: Scott, Shauna, David, and Amy. Their first-born Scott died of sudden infant death syndrome in 1959.
Though they'd raised a family together, Van Wagenen and Redford divorced in 1985. "I never wanted to be one of those divorced showbusiness casualties – so predictable! I wanted to prove that a marriage could last and prove the business wrong. But I couldn't," Redford told Telegraph in 2001.
Elin Nordegren
Former Swedish model Elin Nordegren was working as a nanny for golfer Jesper Parnevik when she was introduced to Tiger Woods at the 2001 Open Championship. Nordegren and Woods tied the knot at Shady Lane resort in Barbados in 2004. Woods reportedly rented the entire complex for a week, which cost nearly $2 million.
The couple had a daughter named Sam in 2007 and a son named Charlie in 2009. Also in 2009, Woods' infidelity came to light after he was involved in a car accident. Nordegren filed for divorce and it was finalized the following year.
Priscilla Presley
Priscilla Presley married Elvis on May 1, 1967, in an intimate, yet highly-publicized ceremony at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. She was only around 22 years old at the time and exactly nine months after their wedding, Presley gave birth to their one and only daughter, Lisa Marie.
After their daughter's birth, Elvis's career hit a break again and he was constantly away from the family, who stayed back in Tennessee. Elvis's absence and the couple's respective affairs caused the marriage to deteriorate. They separated in early 1972 and were finally divorced in late 1973.
Diandra Luker
Michael Douglas may be famously married to Catherine Zeta-Jones nowadays but for the first part of his career there was another woman on his arm at red-carpet events. Douglas's first marriage was to Diandra Luker, the daughter of an Austrian diplomat. The two married in 1977 and had one son named Cameron.
Douglas and Luker were married for almost 20 years, before Luker filed for divorce in 1995. She was reported awarded $45 million as a part of their divorce settlement. Outside of this marriage, Luker is a prominent Hollywood film producer.
Shakira Caine
Shakira, Lady Caine is married to English actor Sir Michael Caine. Born Shakira Baksh in British Guiana, she was working as a secretary when her boss urged her to enter the Miss Guyana contest. Baksh ended up winning and entered the Miss World contest at age 19, placing third.
She decided to stay in London after that to pursue modeling and dabble in acting. She was in a TV commercial for Maxwell House coffee 1971, which is how Michael Caine first laid eyes on her. He used his entertainment connections to find out who she was and the rest is history.
Diahanne Abbott
Diahnne Abbott became Robert De Niro's first wife in 1976, the same year of the premiere of Taxi Driver, in which Abbott plays a supporting role. De Niro adopted Abbott's daughter Drena from a previous marriage, and the couple also had a son named Raphael.
Abbott and De Niro were divorced by 1988. As an actress and singer, Abbott has had some supporting roles throughout the years but has relatively remained out of the spotlight. Daughter Drena is an actress, while son Raphael left acting to work full-time as a celebrity real estate broker.
Julianne Phillips
Julianna Phillips met Bruce Springsteen backstage at one of his concerts in 1984 and subsequently began dating. They got married in a small ceremony at Lake Oswego in May 1985. An actress and model, Phillips has appeared in Springsteen's music video for "Glory Days."
Unfortunately, the marriage only lasted until 1989, when their divorce was finalized. Part of the reason for their break-up was that he fell in love with his bandmate Patti Scialfa. As for Phillips, she became known for her role in the television show Sisters but hasn't acted since 1997.
Tracy Pollan
Tracy Pollan is married to Michael J. Fox. They first met when Pollan was cast as Ellen Reed, the girlfriend of Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties. Nothing happened between them on the show but they reunited on the set of 1988's Bright Lights, Big City and began dating.
Later that year, they tied the knot in Vermont. The couple have four children together: Sam, Aquinnah, Schuyler, and Esmé. Pollan and Fox remain together to this day and she has been right by his side during his fight against Parkinson's disease.
Susan Geston
When Jeff Bridges first laid eyes on Susan Geston it was love at first sight. The pair met back in 1975, when Bridges was in Montana filming Rancho Deluxe. Geston was working as a waitress to pay her way through college and initially rejected Bridges. Nonetheless, they ended up going out a couple nights later and hit it off.
They dated for a couple of years before Geston gave bridges an ultimatum. Bridges was afraid of commitment at the time, but knew he didn't want to lose Geston. The couple tied the knot in 1977 and have three daughters.
Robyn Moore
Robyn Moore was an aspiring actress with the South Australian Theatre Company who was making ends meet as a dental nurse when she met Mel Gibson. The couple married in 1980 in a Catholic ceremony. Throughout their marriage, they had one daughter and six sons.
After 26 years, their marriage began to fall apart and they were divorced by 2011. Moore is reported to have earned $400 million in the divorce settlement, which at the time was said to be the highest in Hollywood history.
Brigitte Nielsen
Danish actress Brigitte Nielsen was known for her roles in Rocky IV and Cobra. In both films, she co-starred alongside Sylvester Stallone and the two subsequently became involved. They married in 1985 in the home of producer Irwin Winkler. It was both of their second marriages.
Unfortunately, it didn't last but 19 months. The high-profile relationship was fodder for tabloids, who collectively had a field day when the couple separated and divorced. Since then, they've gone on with their respective lives and careers, which is probably why this marriage is often forgotten.
Cindy Crawford
Cindy Crawford was undeniably one of the top models of the '80s and '90s. At the height of her career in the early '90s, Crawford could have probably had any man that she wanted. But in 1991, that lucky man was Richard Gere.
Crawford was 26 when she married then-42-year-old Gere, but the couple split up four years later in 1995 because they didn't spend enough time with each other. Crawford has since moved on with businessman Rande Gerber and gave birth to two supermodel children of her own. In 2016, Crawford has said Gere became "like a stranger" to her.
Geena Davis
Geena Davis has been in three movies with Jeff Goldblum throughout the '80s: Transylvania 6-5000, The Fly, and Earth Girls Are Easy. It's no surprise then that these two co-stars eventually fell in love and got married in 1987.
It was a match made in Hollywood heaven, but unfortunately, this is one of those Hollywood marriages that not many people remember. Just after she had just finished filming Thelma & Louise, for which she was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe, she filed for divorce from Goldblum. They both have since remarried.
Camille Grammer
Camille Grammer was a former dancer and model who married Kelsey Grammer in 1996. They were married for less than 15 years, before Camille filed for divorce in 2010. In the divorce, Camille sought primary physical custody of her daughter Mason and her son Jude, in addition to child and spousal support.
The divorce itself was not amicable from what the public could see. While Camille claimed that Kelsey was both physically and verbally abusive to her, Kelsey countered that Camille married him for fame. He notoriously said that she "thought she married Frasier Crane."
Melanie Griffith
Remember when Melanie Griffith was married to Antonio Banderas? They were co-stars in the 1996 comedy Two Much and started a relationship while filming. At the time, they were in the midst of getting divorced from their former spouses. But once they were finalized, Griffith and Banderas tied the knot in 1996 and had a daughter the same year.
They spent nearly 20 years of marital bliss together before Griffith filed for divorce in 2014. However, there was no ill will between the two actors in this divorce and Banderas has even said that he will always love her.
Kim Basinger
Kim Basinger was a model who began transitioning into an acting career in the '70s. Throughout the '80s and '90s, Basinger was a certified sex symbol, which is ostensibly why Alec Baldwin married her in 1993. They met when they played lovers in 1990's The Marrying Man and starred together again in 1994's The Getaway.
They share one daughter, Ireland, who was born in 1995. The marriage lasted up until 2000 when they separated. They made that official by getting divorced in 2002. Baldwin has since moved on with another woman.
Brooke Shields
Brooke Shields may be happily married with two kids to television writer Chris Henchy now, but before all of it, she was once married to tennis player Andre Agassi. The two met in 1993 and back then, they sent each other love notes via fax machine!
They eventually got married in 1997 and she even supported him even after he revealed that he wore hairpieces. Growing up with an alcoholic mom, Shields couldn't believe she never noticed the signs about Agassi's own addiction to crystal meth until he told her. Though she tried to support him, they divorced in 1999.
Christine Taylor
Actress Christine Taylor met Ben Stiller on the set of the television show Heat Vision and Jack. They instantly hit it off and were married the following year at a beautiful oceanfront ceremony in Hawaii in 2000. Since then, the actors have starred alongside each other in many Ben Stiller classics such as Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and Zoolander.
The couple had two children together and on top of that, they did everything together – including going vegan. However, they proved that not all love is everlasting and shocked everyone when they announced their separation in 2017.
Rita Wilson
Actress and producer Rita Wilson met Tom Hanks on the set of Bosom Buddies and didn't see him again until four years later when they starred together in 1985's Volunteers. At the time, he was still married to actress Samantha Lewes, but once that divorce was finalized, Hanks married Wilson in 1988.
Hanks converted to the Greek Orthodox Church in order to married Wilson. In 2018, they celebrated 30 years of marriage together, in which they had two sons. He remained fully supportive when in 2015, Wilson announced her breast cancer diagnosis. The couple also survived COVID in 2020.
Elsa Pataky
Elsa Pataky is married to Australian heartthrob Chris Hemsworth. The Spanish actress and model met the Thor actor when they were introduced by a mutual friend in early 2010. After just three months, Pataky and Hemsworth tied the knot in Indonesia.
The wedding was so spur-of-the-moment, that Pataky and Hemsworth don't even remember the exact date of their wedding! Since then, they've had three children together: a daughter born in 2012 and twin boys born in 2014. They remain happily married to this day.
Melissa Womer
Melissa Womer was the first person to marry comedian Jim Carrey. She was an actress who at the time was working as a waitress at the famed Comedy Store when she met Carrey in the '80s. They got married in 1987 and had a daughter, Jane, the same year.
The marriage lasted until 1995 and then they got divorced. They were reportedly on busy schedules when they decided to split up, which makes sense since Carrey was at the height of his career at the time. As for Womer, she hasn't really been heard from since.
