People are quick to lose things. One of those things is a quality that is oftentimes reserved for marriage. A lot of peer pressure comes along with this, and the times have changed drastically which has caused a paradigm shift in societal views. There are some folks who want to save their virginity for the right person, and there are individuals in Hollywood who want to save themselves for marriage as well.
“Spiritually, It’s What I Believe I Always Should’ve Done”
Meagan Good held out and went with her heart when she decided to wait and get married before losing her virginity. She just happened to get married to DeVon Franklin. She found him to be patient enough to wait until they were married before the fun and games began.
Meagan Good has gone on record as describing her husband’s patience: “Our wedding night will be the first time we’re actually together. He was willing to be celibate with me for a year.” She has also decided to write a book called The Wait which will be used to promote virginity before marriage. She spoke to Jimmy Kimmel about the purpose of the book and said “Spiritually, it’s what I believe I always should’ve done. So I was like, you know, let’s try it this way, it was very different and it’s been amazing.”
“You’ll Be the First, and the Only”
It is mostly believed that women are the ones who wait and decide to abstain from sensual activity before they are married. Celine Dion is an example of this pattern of thought. When she met her future husband René Angélil, she was 12. By the age of 17 she had revealed to him that she really liked him.
A few years later she would encounter him again and she mustered up the courage to tell him how she felt. She explains: “It was he who called me several minutes later from the lobby of the hotel to ask if I was all right. And then he told me: ‘If you really want to, I’ll be the first.’ And I answered him: ‘You’ll be the first, and the only.’” You have to give it to the girl, she knows what she wants. By the age of 20 she married him and even now after his death, he was still the one and only.
“I Definitely Believe God Has Someone Special for Me…”
Bethany Hamilton has survived the odds during her lifetime. She gained notoriety due to a terrible event which happened to her while she was surfing. She was attacked by a shark and she has lived to tell about it. She decided to save herself for that special someone before she started a family.
Hamilton has explained her dating experiences: “I definitely believe God has someone special for me. I just want to honor Him and patiently wait for that special someone. Can’t wait! (haha, not so patient) I’ve only dated one person. I haven’t kissed anyone! I’m really glad with my choices and don’t feel the need to rush anything.”
“It’s the Hardest Thing I’ve Ever Done in My Life — Harder Than Training for the Olympics”
Lolo Jones knows what it is like to endure for long periods of time. Her Olympic training has taught her about discipline and patience. She is not afraid to let anyone know that she is still a virgin and she is holding on to her virginity until she finds the right mate.
Lolo went on Real Sports and said that she is a virgin. She says it is hard being chaste: “If there’s a virgin out there, I’m going to let them know, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life — harder than training for the Olympics, harder than graduating from college, has been to stay a virgin before marriage.”
“Virginity is the Most Precious Gift”
Leelee Sobieski held out for a long time until she got married. She felt like her virginity was more than just something that a woman could just give away freely. Many people receive gifts when the time is right. Leelee Sobieski decided to give her gift to her man when the time presented itself.
Leelee Sobiesk waited until she was 26 years of age, the age that she got married she had this to say: “I guess 26 is kind of old to lose your virginity, but it was important to me that I remained a virgin until after I was married. It wasn’t for any religious reasons or anything like that, but simply because, to me, my virginity was the most precious gift that I could ever give to a man, and I wanted to be sure I was giving it to the right man.”
“Sex Is for After Marriage”
People may have their stereotypes about really beautiful women, but these women also have their own views about abstaining from sexual activity and waiting for the right person. Adriana Lima is known for strutting her stuff on the runways in sexy outfits and the like. Some may not believe that she abstained from intercourse until she found the right mate.
Adriana Lima had an interview with GQ in 2006 and she was dating basketball player Marko Jaric. She let the magazine know that she believes in abstinence before marriage: “Sex is for after marriage. [Men] have to respect that this is my choice. If there’s no respect, that means they don’t want me.”
“I Was Just Treading Lightly, and Did Not Want to Make Any Mistakes”
Ali Landry is no stranger to marriage. She was once married to Mario Lopez of Saved By the Bell fame. Is there a such thing as post marital abstinece? Maybe there exist such a thing. Ali Landry definitely tried this whole thing after she got a divorce from Mario Lopez. She refused to have any kind of sexual relationship until she got married again.
Relief came in the form of her second hubby Alejandro Monteverde. She married Monteverde in 2006 and she did not engage any kind of sexual activity until she married him. She appeared on the Wendy Williams Show in 2012 and described her experiences with post-marital abstinence. She exclaimed: “I was just treading lightly, and did not want to make any mistakes in this relationship.” She also said: “We abstained from having sex until we got married.”
“It’s Not Bad to Wear a Promise Ring”
Peer pressure can cause someone to break their own moral code. Some people want others to deviate from their daily routine and “live life.” The pressure can become so bad that one would actually give in and break their own moral code. It is hard to resist temptation sometimes, and a little pressure from one’s peers makes giving in that much easier.
Some people are even made fun of because of their nonconformity. Russell Brand poked at the Jonas Brothers because of their decision to remain abstinent. Jordin Sparks just happened to attend the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards and Russell Brand brought this issue up. Jordin Sparks had this to say “It’s not bad to wear a promise ring.” Jordin went on to say: “Not everybody — guy or girl — wants to be a [expletive].”
Tamera Gets Some Divine Inspiration
The most commonly handed down beliefs about the practice of celibacy comes from either family or religion. Religious doctrines aim to guide people in their daily lives and provide spiritual enlightenment. The religious practices stay with a person throughout their lifetime and their faith practices reflect their lifestyles.
Tamera Mowry-Housley and her husband Adam Housley both abstained from having a sexual relationship because of their religious faith. Their divine and spiritual inspiration came though their religious faith. She believed so strongly about celibacy that she told Ebony Magazine: “We felt God wanted us to do it. Whenever you’re feeling discouraged just pray together.”
“I Want to be That Special Person”
Sometimes it is just best to talk things out. There can be action over the phone, such as those popular commercials that use to broadcast in the 90s. Some of you remember those 1-900 numbers that were campy and a bit humorous. Julianne Hough took this approach but not through the campy commercials.
Julianne had an interview with CosmoGIRL in 2008. She said: “I want to be with that special person. I think [the choice] to have sex before marriage is an individual one, but if you’re just with one person, it’s only for one good reason, and [waiting to have sex] will strengthen that relationship. I’m not trying to preach consequences here, but I think when you say no, down the line it will be a better decision.” It was discovered that she and her now husband Brooks Laich had some steamy phone conversations before they got married in 2015.
“It’s About Finding a Girl Who Likes Me for Me, and Not Because of What I Do…”
Some guys will not admit to being a virgin when they are asked. It is a very embarrassing thing amongst guys to say if they are a virgin or not. It can cause some man’s face to blush (some guys) when they admit that they are a virgin. There has to be someone who is not embarrassed to admit that they are still a virgin.
Enter Tim Tebow into the picture. Tim is a devout Christian and he has admittedly said that he is a virgin and he stands by this. He went on record in 2009 saying: It’s about finding a girl who likes me for me, and not because of what I do, or who I am, or the name.”
“I Actually Waited Until I Was Married to Have Sex”
Sex can be a dirty thing to some folks. Background and moral practices say that this is true in some circles. It is something that should only be talked about behind closed doors according to some people. Have you ever heard that sex could be destructive?
Andy Grammer waited for the right time to finally roll in the hay. He said on The Talk: “I actually waited until I was married to have sex.” He also said: “I do think that, as a culture, we don’t understand the effects of that. I feel for men right now because it’s never been this easy to do something so destructive to yourself. It makes my heart sad that we don’t quite understand how destructive that is, on a daily basis, that we can be doing to ourselves.”
“We Actually Get to Go to Sleep Side by Side! This Is so Cool!”
Colton Dixon married a woman named Annie in January 2016. He revealed that before this time he was actually abstaining from sexual activity. He even went on to reveal that it was his first time actually having relations and sharing the same bed when he and his wife were on their honeymoon.
Colton Dixon told People in 2016: “It was kind of strange: we checked into the room and realized, ‘We actually get to go to sleep side by side! This is so cool! ” He went on to say: “Anywhere we’ve traveled before, we’ve always gotten two hotel rooms. We wanted to remain pure in that area.”
“It’s Until the Deal Is Sealed. Absolutely!”
Two people who really love and understand each other will not balk on their relationship because of an agreement. There is a great deal of understanding that comes along when someone says to their partner that they will have to wait for the keys to the gates of paradise. For people who are sincerely in love with each other the wait is well worth the time.
Ciara Wilson and Russell Wilson were engaged in 2015. She waited until the seahawk landed before she would engage in an intimate relationship with him. Ciara went on record as saying: “It’s until the deal is sealed. Absolutely!”
“I Couldn’t Give It Away”
No access to the womb until the rock is on the finger was the belief that 30 Rock creator Tina Fey held so dear before she got married. She has a spiritual side that told her not to engage in any type of activity until the time was right. Tina Fey did not lose her virginity while she was in high school like so many teens do in current times. She actually waited until she was 24 to lose her virginity.
She married Jeff Richmond years ago and she even told her story about her celibacy on The David Letterman Show: “That’s just good, Christian values, or, being homely. I couldn’t give it away.”
“We’d Have Gone Crazy Waiting Any Longer”
It is natural for people to have the urge to play around. People are people, and they have certain cravings that could only possibly be stopped with a very cold shower. This may help temporarily, but the burning urge will come back to haunt a person. It is even harder when someone wants to remain celibate and keep their gift for their honeymoon.
Kevin Jonas has been made fun of for admitting to being a virgin before he married Danielle Jonas in 2009. He had these urges and he let everyone know about these urges. He told People: “I could’ve gotten married the day after we got engaged. We’d have gone crazy waiting any longer.”
“Virginity Can Be Cool and Sexy”
Could celibacy become a popular trend? Our society dictates what is in and what is out. There could possibly, but not likely, be a trend that occurs where a person’s celibacy could become popular and catch on. Jessica Simpson literally wore here celibacy around her neck before she married Nick Lachey.
Jessica Simpson bore a purity ring which she had since she was 12. She has been outspoken about her virginity before her marriage and she seemed like an advocate of sorts when it came to celibacy. She went on record as saying: “Of all the things about myself, staying a virgin until my wedding night is the thing that makes me most proud.” She also told People in 2000: It’s not always easy. But I do respect it. Virginity can be cool and sexy.”
Carrie Underwood: The Hot Wife
Carrie Underwood is a country singer who more than likely was shaped by her religious beliefs when it came to abstaining from pre-marital sex. She is from Oklahoma, which is included in the bible belt. Her bible belt influences led her in the direction of keeping the gates closed until the right person had the key.
Carrie Underwood waited until she found her man, who was Mike Fisher. Carrie went to various outlets and opened up about her celibacy. She told Slate that she would remain a virgin until the time was right. She married Mike Fisher in 2010. She told People that she tries to keep in shape for her husband: “Even when he’s like, ‘I’m so out of shape,’ he still has a six-pack, I want to be a hot wife!”
Mariah Tries to Recapture the Moment
Mariah Carey has been married previously before she met Nick Cannon. She had already had relations and she decided to recapture the moment when she was still a virgin by remaining abstinent before she started dating Nick Cannon.
There is a such thing as a “born again virgin” and some people want to recapture their moment when they finally meet the right person. The first time was not a charm for some people, and so it is natural to become one of those born-again virgins. Mariah married Nick Cannon in 2008, two months after meeting him, and so her celibacy did not last that long.
“I’ve Lived Life Kind of Selfishly for a Long Time”
Some people try to make up for their past when they have done wrong. Sometimes the wrong eats up a person to the point where they will repent and want to do right. A total life turnaround can be enlightening to someone who has been on the wild side. Marriage can change a person to the point where a person feels that they have been renewed.
Sean Lowe needed a change in his life, and he found a life partner in Catherine Giudici. He waited to be intimate with Catherine and he even told People magazine: “From my perspective, I’ve lived life kind of selfishly for a long time.” Sean went on to say: “Now, I’m going to try to live it the way I know to be right.”
