For the first time in his legendary career, Al Pacino has accepted a regular role on a TV series. The Amazon Prime original, The Hunt, is being produced by Oscar winner Jordan Peele. Pacino will play the mentor to the main character of the series, who will be portrayed by Logan Lerman. What exactly he is the mentor of is the interesting part.

The show, created by David Weil, will follow Nazi hunters in 1970s New York. The group, led by Lerman, begin their hunt after discovering a large number of high ranking Nazi officials are living in the city. The dastardly bad guys are secretly planning to create a Fourth Reich in the United States. Will they be hunted down before their plan comes to fruition?

Pacino will be entering unfamiliar territory as a series regular. He has previously guest starred on TV shows and even had a late career resurgence in HBO original movies. Several times in recent years he has received critical praise for playing real life characters for Home Box Office. Most recently he played legendary but shamed former head Penn State football coach Joe Paterno in Paterno.

Weil wrote the show based on an original idea that was inspired by real events. Pacino became involved with the production this week, officially signing on to the ten episode first season. There is no word on if Pacino has committed to further seasons should the series be successful. Considering Amazon’s current string of hits, there’s a solid chance that happens.
