There are many complications when it comes to the difficult process of giving birth, but these put the rest to shame. Check out the craziest birth stories you will have the read to believe.
Born 14 Weeks Early
Helen and Neil Clary were devastated when their son Noah was born 14 weeks early. Doctors warned that the tiny baby would likely not survive. Boy, did he prove everyone wrong!
Shortly after delivery, doctors rushed Noah to a special intensive care unit. Unfortunately, more bad news came as medics learned that the baby’s heart was wide open and needed emergency surgery. He pulled through, and after six months of using a ventilator was able to breathe on his own. His first birthday has now come and gone, and he shows no signs of the astonishing struggle he survived as an infant.
61-Year-Old Grandmother Gives Birth To Grandchild
Have you seen the Friends episode where Phoebe is her brother’s surrogate for him and his over-aged wife’s triplets? Well, this story is not far off and it’s actually real. In a beautiful act of selflessness and true motherhood, 61-year-old and future grandmother Kristine Casey saw her daughter was broken down from two failed pregnancies and decided to be her surrogate.
After taking several tests and being cleared for postmenopausal birth, Kristine gave birth to Sara’s baby making it one of the rarest and most special birth moments on our list. Imagine how special their connection is going to be as grandmother and grandson!
But, First A Marathon
With her delivery date hours from the finish line, this tough mother decided to accomplish her goal of completing the Bank of America Chicago Marathon before giving birth to her baby girl. Knowing that being able to run the whole race was a stretch, Amber originally planned on running the first half and walking the rest.
But, then the contractions came and lasted the entire second half of the race! Luckily, Amber had her loving husband by her side throughout the feat and even managed to get a bite in before heading to the hospital. What a way to start motherhood!
Mother Survives Shooting And Being Set On Fire
Bullets and fire couldn’t stop this mother from loving her baby. In one of the saddest stories we have ever heard, expecting mother-of-three and Chicago native Latonya Bowman was abducted, shot and set on fire by the father of her baby and his best friend.
After ceasing the flames, miraculously overcoming the pain of the bullets and playing dead, Latonya was able to drive herself to a gas station to reach her mother. Shortly after, she was driven to the hospital to deliver her baby boy in an emergency C-section. Weeks later Latonya’s mother reported that her daughter was not able to move easily since the horrible tragedy and that the poor baby boy was suffering from breathing due to holes in his heart.
Four Times The Happiness
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that robs many women of the ability to conceive or bear children. So Katalina Martin truly defied all odds when she conceived not just one baby, but four! Even more astounding is the fact that each of the babies was conceived by a separate egg. Some medical experts rank the odds of this occurrence at about one in 700,000.
The happy mother said “I couldn’t believe when I saw them lying there in their cots. They all came from a different egg… and they have different personalities.” All the babies are healthy.
A Fourth Of July Surprise
What Jennifer West thought was going to be a relaxing Fourth of July vacation with her family, turned out to be an awful day in bed with stomach and back pain and cramps that she could not bear. After a few hours of the agony, Jennifer’s husband decided to take her to the hospital where she found out that she was actually experiencing labor contractions and was about to give birth to a son!
The weirdest part is that West was getting her monthly periods and barely even showed, so she literally had no idea that she was even pregnant at all. Hours later, she gave birth to a beautiful and health 8 pound baby boy and the family got a little Fourth of July surprise!
Kicked To The Curb
Poor Ana Hernandez was kicked out of her cab and onto the sidewalk when she told her driver that she was in the process of labor. He said he didn’t want “blood all over the place” and left Ana to give birth by herself right on the curb! The worst part is that people were passing her on the street and didn’t even stop or pull over to help. Luckily for Ana, an ambulance was called and they arrived in time to escort her and new, healthy baby girl to the hospital.
After the ordeal, Ana spoke to the press saying “I took my sweater off and wrapped [the baby] in it. It wasn’t enough so I had to use my shirt to cover her head. She started coughing and I started rubbing her back because I thought she was going to drown. I was afraid something bad was going to happen to her. Cars kept driving by but nobody pulled over to help.” How awful, but luckily she and the baby are fine.
Nothing Will Keep Me From My License
20-year-old Emily French wasn’t going to let anything stand in her way of passing her drivers test to get her license, not even the birth of her baby! Apparently, the Scottish girl went into labor early at 4 am, waited until she took her drivers test at 8:40, passed and even drove herself to the hospital!
To make the test even more difficult, she was experiencing contractions every 10 minutes during the test and still managed to pass. Wow, what a trooper! We all know how determined we are to take the test after waiting weeks, but doing it while in labor? Incredible.
This Baby Will Grow Up Smart!
California pastor Jerrod Wagner and his wife Jennifer were attending Sunday service in a community room at the Huntington Beach Central Library in 2011. Jennifer, who was due to give birth to her fourth child nine days later, began to feel contractions and realized that she was about to have her baby right then and there.
Not wanting to disrupt the service, she went into the library’s restroom and delivered little Titus Wagner while she leaned against an armrest in one of the restroom’s stalls. Jerrod joked with the LA Times about their son’s unusual birth, quipping that “[p]eople were saying it could have been his first baptism, because the toilet was open But fortunately, there was no baptism.”
Three Weeks Of Labor Pains
Some mothers go into labor for hours or even days, but imagine three weeks of contractions; especially when the standard first birth should only last up to 12 hours! British teenager Amy Buck went into labor after only 19 weeks, developed a horrible infection and experienced the brutal and agonizing pains of labor contractions for the next three weeks nonstop.
Even after receiving medication to delay labor, she gave birth to her preemie boy Daniel at only 1 pound and 3 ounces. By what could be considered a miracle, Daniel survived the scary situation and Amy went back to normal health after giving birth. What a story and what a trooper!
75 Days Of Labor
It sounds like a bad Christmas rhyme, doesn’t it? And we thought that three weeks would be awful, but this story is so much worse. Polish native Joanna Krzysztonek experienced an unexpected preterm birth with her triplets that resulted in the unfortunate loss of one of her babies.
Born too soon, one of the three was lost shortly after birth which initiated Joanna’s still stature in the hospital bed for the next two and half months! After being instructed by her doctor to lay perfectly still upside down with her feet up, Joanna listened and it kept at it for over two months. Even though that must have been tough for the poor mother, her boy and girl twins were born perfectly healthy 75 days later. Wow!
Twins A Year Apart
Just like we see in the movies or on TV shows, there really are New Years babies! Even twins that are born a full year apart in the span of just a few hours like Stephanie Peterson’s twins Beckett and Freya. After giving birth to her son at approximately 6:40 PM (2011) New Years Eve, Stephanie experienced contractions for daughter Freya until her birth at 12:26 AM (2012) New Years Day.
What a blessing to receive two healthy babies at the start of the new year! Ironically, both New York and Florida moms Brighib and Jocelyn reportedly both gave birth in the same exact situations as well!
Baby On Board
The only thing that has to be worse than experiencing a crying baby on board a flight, is actually having to give birth to one! Mother Aida Alamillo started experiencing labor pains on board her flight from the Philippines to San Fransisco five hours before landing.
Thanks to the help of the staff and three on-flight nurses, Aida’s son was born in less than 15 minutes! Thank goodness it wasn’t a long, dragged out birth, right? Paramedics were called and ready for Aida and her boy by the time the plane safely landed in San Fransisco. It’s a wonder that she was cleared to fly being so close to labor in the first place though.
3 of 5 Leapers
Defying what seemed to be impossible odds, Utah resident Louise Estes gave birth to three of her five babies on Leap Day! The first and second were born four years apart but both on Leap Day, making this last baby the third to be born on the same day. When the first was born, they joked around and said “let’s try to get the next born on Leap Day too.” And so they did.
By the time their fifth baby came around, they attempted to deliver around the already shared February date and fortunately Jade was overdue just in time for the perfect day. The parents joked that they still celebrate their children’s birthdays individually although the three of them share the same day. How cute!
13 Pounds and 12 Ounces
Yikes, what a big boy! 24-year-old expecting mother Kendall Stewardson gave birth to her second baby after pushing for 6 long hours without an ounce of medication. At a whopping 13 pounds and 12 ounces, her second born stole the weight title from the first that weighed a whole 12 pounds and 1 ounce.
Kendall sweetly joked that her “body was made for big babies” after the birth of her big baby boy and that she and her husband were very blessed. Imagine how big their next one will be, oh goodness! Hopefully, Kendall will be prepared for her next huge bundle of joy.
Life Support Twin Miracles
In such a devastating, yet hopeful story, 26-year-old expecting mother Christine Bolden suffered from a brain aneurysm when she was walking with her boyfriend and 3-year-old son. Sadly, five days after her collapse she was pronounced dead by doctors and in an effort to save the baby, Christine was hooked up to a respirator on life support.
In what can only be described as a miracle, Christine gave birth to healthy twins while on life support which was turned off following the successful birth after only 25 weeks of pregnancy. What a mother, still there for her babies in the afterlife! So touching.
Although 31-year-old expecting mother Nina Ramirez knew it was time for her baby girl to be born, the Jacobi Medical Center did not agree. After sending the mother-to-be home, saying that it was not time for her to deliver yet, Nina gave birth to her baby girl in the elevator of their apartment.
Fortunately, father Armando and his friends were there for his wife to help her deliver Monserrath at 9 pounds and 8 ounces in the first-floor elevator. Soon after the birth, the two were rushed in an ambulance back to Jacobi to make sure she was okay. What a big surprise!
Almost Behind Bars
After her arrest for driving under the influence of both alcohol and methamphetamine, a 29-year-old prisoner suddenly went into labor in the Santa Cruz County jail lobby. Being three months premature, the birth of the baby came as a shock to both the mother and guards.
Unfortunately, after her birth, the baby girl stopped breathing so the two were rushed to Dominican Hospital for observation. Luckily the baby was saved in time and the mother was held in custody at the hospital until she sobered up enough to be properly arrested by officials. Following her $250 bail, the Child Protective Services were contacted by the hospital.
528 Pounds Later
A 25-year-old Romanian woman that weighed 528 pounds gave birth to a 6 pound 4 ounce baby at a hospital equipped to treat obese people. Victoria Lacatus had to be carried by three teams of ambulance staff and firefighters in order to get her to the hospital in Bucharest considering her hometown village did not possess a bed that could carry her weight.
Doctors were definitely nervous about Victoria’s weight issues during post-surgery, but nothing was going to stop her from having this baby. Due to her intense thyroid issue, she had to be carefully monitored during childbirth but delivered her healthy baby girl by a C-section.
A Baby Boy In Combat
While serving in the British military, a shocked and expecting mother and Royal Artillery gunner was experiencing horrible pains in her stomach that she decided to report to the medic. Just like the majority of these stories, the woman soldier was completely unaware that they were labor pains; especially considering the U.K. does not allow pregnant soldiers to deploy.
The healthy baby boy was delivered at Camp Bastion in Southern Afghanistan and became the first and only baby to ever be born in combat. Considering she was in the dark that she was pregnant in the first place, she did not face charges to deploying while pregnant.
